Lakland Owners Group #23

Yep, its only the aesthetics sucking me into the DJ5.

Ill see how much of a hit I take on my new Avatar cab, and then see where it goes from there.

Either way, Im going to save for one of Atkinsons refins.. I want something special like Marcus'! :D

Also, realize that the DJ5 neck is the only one that is different than the other Lakland fivers. It's a tad narrower at the nut, and a little thicker front to back. Still very comfy, just a little different.

Agreed, but I still think my favorite DJ grain was my old one....

If I were to get a DJ5, how hard would it be to put an active preamp into it? I dont think I could do it myself, but would it be a hard task?

Im just keeping my options open, as the DJ5 has quite possibly the nicest, and funkiest, aesthetics of any bass right now.

IMO.

You peepz seen this Lakland on ebay?

Gawd, that bass looks hott... it claims to be a 55-07 but I do not know anything about that model. Any enlightenment here folks, why would it need a coil tap if the bridge pickup only has one set of coils? :help:

Peace,

I certainly wouldn't call them a downgrade. Having played a number of Chi-d basses, I can attest to them being fabulous. Just like anything, they may not be for everyone, but I could count on two fingers the negative comments I've heard on them. I'm planning to get them installed on my JO5 and CAN'T WAIT!

There is negative comments?

If the LOG bass doesn't happen in the near future, I'll be adding a 55-07 to fulfill my occasional active needs....

Great great choice!!

Peace,

The ChiSonics in the 4-07/5-07 basses are humbuckers, with a coil tap to switch both to single coil mode.

He is none other than the great "buffordbass" (applause). He is a legend in these parts as he has owned every lakland ever made...not every type of lakland...but EVERY LAKLAND!!!!
:hiding:

and you will not find a more trustworthy and good guy to deal with. He is a superstar for real

... and here I thought I was only a legend in my own mind...
Thanks Aaron... I think...

Yeah, that kind of makes my point. I don't consider them an upgrade. They are just different, and happen to cost more. An upgrade to me is going from something that is "not so good" to something better, either in terms of quality or tonal difference. The Chi's aren't higher quality, they just sound different. So they could be an upgrade or downgrade, depending on the person.

I wouldn't mind having the Chi's in a Glaub, but in my 55-02? No way!

Good point, and disclaimer...no I have not. All the listening I've done to the clips, along with the general descriptions don't fit the tonal profile I'm looking for. I can see how some like them better. My guess is I would like them as well, but probably not as much as the Lakland pups. In a Glaub or a Decade, then absolutely!

There's a thread or four on the LOG site. I'm thinking if we did a BG5 in a standard color (3tsb), with a P p/u, with a twist to make it special (black blocks on a maple neck- something never done before on a Lakie fiver), it would be a home run.

I would put money down for that right now! HOTT! I need one of your photoshop guys to make that a reality for me! That would be my new desktop....woohoo
