I called D'addario before I ordered and they told me the SL's were ones I wanted.

I've have had no problems with Steel or Nickel SL's.

I have a new set of EXL170-5SL's.

I measured the B string and it was 49 inches...

Yeah, I've used their steels too. This is just a CHROMES issue.

I'll call them Monday.

No kidding! When I called Bass Central about getting some, they said the MSRP was like $95 on the 5er SLs... crazy huh?

I've never had this problem with chromes. I think I've had 3 or 4 5'er sets...Oh, and last set was $25 new/sealed in the TB classifieds

Yeah that's pretty much where I get most of my stuff, there and here on TB. In fact I got my ECB81-5SLs on the 'bay for $39 plus $1.75 for shipping. Most other sellers did $45 w/ free shipping for the SLs. The supposed "standard" length sets are cheaper.

I'm thinking but hope to keep it Lakland and gotta stay 5 strings, so that narrows it down. Otherwise, I'm outta the fam damnily.

Oh yeah, those are the standard length which should, IN THEORY, be too short for the Lakland 5ers or my 45-76, even though they're most likely the same exact strings.

In fact, I just checked my ECB81-5SL set against a set of ECB81 (4 string) set that I found in my string box. I haven't used them yet, got 'em for my Yamaha fretless a few months back. The E string is exactly the same length from ball to twine . So there's no difference between the ECB81-5 and the ECB81-5SL except that you'll pay $9 more for the package stamped "SL" .

Sorry for the rant guys, but I don't like false advertising!

If anybody has used some ECB81-5SL (45,65,80,100,132) sets on their 35" scale basses and NOT had to cut the twine off or deal with the string tapering BEFORE the nut, PM me please. I'm gonna start a thread to get more input from other TBers.

But I don't think that's the way its gonna go. If I was to ever sell the Junk, I'd be probably be moving towards something different. Laklands are sweet and would be hard to sell/trade the one I have, but I think I may want something in a 34" scale.

Of course I'll keep the general offer in mind.
