I'm gonna get nailed here, but I dislike the Decade, so I can't help you there.

But after owning quite a few Sadowsky's (and starting the Sadowsky Club) they really are what they are made out to be.

Lakland in pretty much every aspect is on par with Sadowsky.
I've only had the 55-94's and one 55-76, so I'm kinda limited to that.

Also, I had Sadowsky's out on tour and know how they work in large theaters and such.
I haven't had a Lakland out like that yet. I have friends who flat out wouldn't play anything else and didn't care for my Sadowsky.

I will say though, this 55-94 I have has the "new" Lakland pick-ups/pre-amp.....WOW!!! It can nail a sweet Jazz Bass tone FAR better than the Bart system could.
Lakland hit it out of the park with this. It really put this thing into the "one bass can pretty much do it all".
I think if more guys outside of the Lakland fan club really took the time to try one with the new system.....you would see a LOT more of them.
It seems that when Lakland first really hit, guys (and girls!) played them (and loved them) but then when you mention Lakland, most have an idea of what to expect sound wise because of the Barts.
I feel the LH3 kicks the Barts ass. IMO naturally :D

Do I feel that Sadowsky is superior to Lakland?? No, but Sadowsky does have this "thing" where no matter the situation, it always seems to find it's spot in the mix and really work.
I think the LH3 system in the 55-94 could be a MAJOR contender for a spot like that.

Heck, the last tour I was on (country) it was Sadowsky, Lakland, Fender or Music Man mostly. And pretty close to that order too.

Fit,finish, playability, quality is equal to anyone out there. Tone?? well, that's subjective as hell.

It's a Jaguar or a Mercedes. Pick one. Both are sweet as hell!

Not sure whether you're running the Barts or LH3's (or if it would even make a difference in this case) but, FWIW, I thought Slinky's were pretty much awful on my Bart-equipped 55. And I've played Slinky's on all my guitars forever. All subjective of course, but to me the difference between those and the DR hi-beams was practically night and day. The DR's were much more full, balanced and punchy to my ear. As always, YMMV.

My bass has Barts in it. I used the Slinkys because that's what we had in stock in that gauge. (I work in a music store) I hope I don't get flamed for this, but I always felt like DR's were overpriced. Maybe I should try them again.

I may go back to D'addarios again; they are cheap and decent. I really want to try some Prosteels.

Got a Skyline DJ4 coming on Weds and US JO probably next week. coming into the fold with a bang :) I will post pics of the happy family when I get it together...Does anybody know where I can pick up a pu chrome cover for the JO? If so how much? Thanks

I must have the older Barts in Traci and I have the spare setup that came outta Sexual Chocolate which was born in '96 I believe. Considered sellling that set, but now I won't. I've heard too many stories of the older sets being "magical"... and for me they're TOPS!

Of course, I'm not interested in getting a P or J tone outta my 55s, if I did that, I'd have no reason to get a BG5 and a JO/DJ, hehe.

Yeah, the DR's aren't cheap, but they seem to last longer than anything else I've used in the past. I'm not a big fan of changing strings constantly (as if anyone prob is). The Hi Beams mellow out nicely on the top end with some use and remain very usable for a long time. So, I guess it kind of weighs out. As with most things, I guess you get what you pay for.

I know there is a section for this but I figured I would throw this in with the Lakland thread where people might be interested.

I found this listing for a Glaub that used to be mine. The seller doesn't mention this (and I am not sure he knows) but I had Lakland apply a US finish to the back of the neck and add a bone nut. (This was before Pleking so bone nuts weren't a standard option). Hand picked for me by the guys at Lakland for the weight and grain. It was a later model so it has the Lakland pickup.

So Korean made, hand done fret work, Lakland pickup, optional tort guard, bone nut and US finish on the neck.

Just in case anyone is interested.
