I'm pretty sure they were the same brand, but not the same gauge. Ernie Ball Super Slinky on the Peavey (Zodiac BXP-souped up) and regular Slinky on the Lakland. We tune down a half step, so I thought heavier might be better. Maybe it killed some of the upper midrange?

Even on one and the same 55-94, the gauge makes a difference. Regular Slinky 45-130 Nickels (green package with an eagle) just do it for me, they have that sweet "classical" F-like hue to them. However, the same model but 40-125 gauge just doesn't sound right, clearly lacks lows, is less punchy and cuts through much worse. It isn't like a different string; it sounds like a different instrument

I took them off...the size combined with the dome top was too much for me. If they had flat tops, I think it would have looked better.
