Darn good deal for it as well! At least I thought it was.

I'm kinda shocked about something though. The prices for a new 55-94 are like $3700-ish street. That's Sadowsky price range.
But it seems for what ever reason, Lakland's haven't held the value quite as high as the Sadowsky's have.

Don't get me wrong, that's WAYYYYY good for us. A Lakland was a SUPER close second when I got my first Sadowsky.

I mean, c'mon, used 55-94's floating about 2K???

It would be interesting to see how many US Lakies have been built vs. US Sadowskys. Maybe it's a supply/demand issue.

I THOUGHT it would be more stealth than it actually is. Now, with all that black and chrome, it looks more classical to me.

I have had Lakland do my board with the acrylic coating and absolutely LOVE it....adds to the mwah factor in my opinion...and you can have it done in WAY less than a year!!!

I would say - "let Lakland do it!" but hey - that's just little ol' me....and what do I know???

so it's acrylic? never heard of this kind of coating. I bet it's awesome! //in low whisper//: I was actually hoping for a fretless 55-94 when I asked Leo... But it turned out differently but soooooo great!

I'm bummed as it seems I missed out on an orange finish - that was my first choice. Eh, whatever - just a reason to get another I s'pose... I need one with Chi's anyway.

Actually... fergbassplayer was the former (and as far as I know, the only other) owner. .

I'm still on the fence on whether or not this is going to go. I found a pretty righteous deal on a US JO... it's had a couple of mods that will require some work done (or a new body) at some point. I'm trying to decide if it's a good enough deal to just go for.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a new body from Lakland? I feel like it'd be a total longshot, and probably out of the question... but worth asking. Anyone have any experience with this?

I assume by your comments that this is a BART equipped bass? the LH3 system (in my opinion) does have more highs - others will disagree but I think the Lakland pickups paired with the LH3 pre is what you really want....Denis (Denchig) used to have a bart pre with the Lakland pickups (or knew someone who did) so maybe he can comment.

my LH3 equipped 55-02 and 55-07 have plenty of high end!

had barts/barts but it was too dark for me despite of the ash/maple combo. "Treble shy" is a good expression. That was strange since I had had a 4-94 std. in the same combo - and it was just the sound in my head (but obviously didn't have the 5th string). My friend, on the contrary, was having issues with his LH3/LH3 bass:

Namely, it was too hot and trebly for him and had a quieter A string (which seldom happens with the LH3 if you dig the strings with downstrokes of a pick - and he's a "new-metal" guy).
So we exchanged our pickups and each found our best choice. My sound (Lakland pups/Barts pre) now was biting, sparkly, live and more agressive. His bass (Bartolini pups/Lakland pre) now had more bottom, tension and support in the low mids. The quieter A string issue was also gone (despite Kirk warning the Barts woukd have it as well). I also feel that the Barts are closer to the P sound when the neck pup is soloed, although the guys here would sometimes call me pucky...

Blackie is kinda universal, and Bonny and Clyde is in the right direction! Maybe one person's name? Like on the opposite side of the line, Ness (for "Eliot Ness")?
