LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #30

Status
Not open for further replies.
To my ears they sound more open, but thicker too. Definitely a wider frequency range. Nice glassy top, deep lows and great midrange growl. Similar to a Darkstar but more mids.

I would agree....the single coils (in the J config) are like the std J's on steroids!!! the double humbuckers are like rolling thunda' (nothing like them in any other bass I have heard!).

lots o' growl from either.....

Dropping in to fulfill my duties. Current temperature: 78! I wanna move back here to Florida, dang.

Greg - IT WAS OVER 70 HERE TODAY AS WELL!!! :smug:

Nice to see Luke and Aaron TRYING to keep up....but with Markus on his run (even with a weekend "out of commission") we cannot seem to keep up!!!

these threads make me sad that i don't have the money for another Lakie.
though i just put my F*nder on the block, so once it's gone, i'll have an all Lakland stable. it'll only be 2 basses, but it's still all Lakland! :D
anybody ever seen a fretless Skyline DD?

2 Lakies are better than 100 Fenders (well, in my opinion anyways!).

a fretless DD.....oooooohhhh....now THAT sounds sweet! I have seen a couple of fretless BGs but not a DD per se...I DID get a quote a while ago about defretting my DJ4 but I do not remember how much......

now that I think about it....maybe they could NOT do it due to the binding.....

Congrats again Denis and Bama on his LPB DJ5, and everyone else that I may have missed :D

Jeez, are we ALL becoming Terrys?? Speaking of which, I've sent him a PM ;).

Now, (as I rub my chin w/ a "pondering" look on my face) did you guys know that Lollar made '51 P pups for 5 strings?

:eyebrow::eek::hyper::atoz:

hmmmmm......what'cha thinkin' ?????

Just got finished playing my old Yam**a fretless 4 banger that I had HG Thor do an epoxy job on.... It was my "poor (married) man's Ped**la" :D

I was considering offering up in trade for a 44-02 in the classifieds.

Anyways, I just can't do it! Harris' work is just too GOOD, and now I hear there's an even longer wait, like 1 yr plus :crying: . As much as I LOVE my Ped**la's superior build quality, pups, everything.... the Thor coating has more sustain and swell. Don't get me wrong, I'd never POSSIBLY screw up the chemistry of my Penta by Thor-isizing it. But....

---BACK ON TOPIC---

I want to send Harris my Lakland 5er fretless neck. So, has anyone else sent him a Lakland neck? Any input from you guys who've had Lakland coat your boards?

I have had Lakland do my board with the acrylic coating and absolutely LOVE it....adds to the mwah factor in my opinion...and you can have it done in WAY less than a year!!!

I would say - "let Lakland do it!" but hey - that's just little ol' me....and what do I know???:D:eyebrow:

I'm bummed as it seems I missed out on an orange finish - that was my first choice. Eh, whatever - just a reason to get another I s'pose... I need one with Chi's anyway.

so....Julie - a CHI'd BG in Markus Orange? now you're REALLY talking!!!! would it be a 4 or 5?????

get the blocked and bound neck while you are at it (either the RW and abalone or maple and ebony).....BTW - if you "have" to sell your BG current bass to fund this one, ALOT of us would like dibs :D

Sounds like a good investment. I've listened to the sound clips on the Lakland website, and there is a noticeable difference, but I'd rather see for myself. I'd imagine they are hard to come by in the used market.

I know 1 or 2 DJs that have sold and a few decades and HB's but not many.....people who get them really seem to like them!!!

keep an eye open for a Decade or a newer HB....they will have CHIs....

you are right, they are a GREAT investment!

This came in yesterday. I love it! Great feeling neck and a ton of tonal options . . .

And, of course, another shot of my SkyGlaub . . .

skyGlaub.gif

OH yeh!!!! there are some nice tonal variations right there!!!

nice quilting!!!

My 55-01 is on the way out :( I just don't feel comfortable at all with a 5'er. The sound is great, the fit and finish (particularly the neck) are fantastic, but it's not the bass for me. I hope to get my hands on another (4-string) Lakland soon.

good luck on your search for a Lakie 4 banger (there are several out there right now).....

Lakland-55-02-Brass-Nut.jpg

This is my primary work horse. I've loved the tone and feel since day one, however, I've always felt it was a little treble shy. So I ended up adding a brass nut to tighten up the attack and bring some zing to the body. I've also just recently contacted Hanson electronics to purchase a set of LH3 pickups without the pre. I hope they deliver on the "brighter - clearer tone" testimonials I've been reading for a few years now. I would just like the 55-02 to have a bit more presence in the high mid and treble frequencies in a two guitar live situation.

Finally, I'd like a Lakland Owners Group membership, where can I deposit my soul kind Sirs?

I assume by your comments that this is a BART equipped bass? the LH3 system (in my opinion) does have more highs - others will disagree but I think the Lakland pickups paired with the LH3 pre is what you really want....Denis (Denchig) used to have a bart pre with the Lakland pickups (or knew someone who did) so maybe he can comment.

my LH3 equipped 55-02 and 55-07 have plenty of high end!

as for Lakland Owners Group membership: go to: Link Removed and sign up....pure and simple!

we can't take your soul...if we did, you would not be able to play bass anymore...your first born will do...

welcome to the club!

JO5 on the truck...out for delivery. hope I don't miss the FedEx guy....

the irony about the JO5 I'm getting is, Chef got it from a guy here in Nashville and now it's coming back to Music City. hmmm...fate me thinks. =)

yahoo!!!! I do find it interesting how basses find their way back to certain owners and cities....the beauty of the world wide web!!!

Is it possible to get a Skyline Glaub model with a J p'up? After listening to the Glaub with the P/J configuration, I've fallen in love with the sound; I just don't have the budget for a USA. For that matter, do they even do Skyline 5-string Glaubs?

not to taunt you but:

DSC01326.gif

the 4 string was just sold a couple of weeks ago (sorry!). the J is not really an "option" on a Skyline....but they WILL do an aftermarket conversion....best to have them do it so they can match the pickups. I had the red one done a couple of years ago....it kinda became "redundant" when the US BG5 PJ came into the house.

as for a Skyline 5-string Glaub, we have been working on Dan about that....we were trying to get a LOG special edition bass made but could not get the 30+ orders needed to do so....the economy was the driver.....

As of now, we are "on hold" and Dan said we cannot do anything "special" at this time....that MAY change in the future....but the economy would have to make a significant improvement and we would have to prove to Dan that a mass market for a SKYBG5 exisits...we think it does....

I believe there is a lake placid blue BG PJ for sale in the classified now...

take care and good luck!

peace from a fellow worship bassist!

Doug

Nice! I think the "Kitt" variant has emerged a few times lately

But, the classical combo of black and chrome and that grooved surface of the pups makes me think rather of earlier cars fashion, like:

you are right Denis!!! the CHI surrounds are kinda like a nice grille.......maybe "Bonnie and Clyde" or simply "Blackie"?
