Somebody help me make it until Thursday when my HB arrives...
On a more serious note. I've only played a HB with barts, and I bought an HB with DS(s). I've played a 'frankenbass' (solid body) with a DS, but I admit never have I heard the DS in a HB.
How much does the hollowbody affect the DS tone (this might all be just conjecture as the DS was in the middle position in the solid-body...blah blah...)

I've got a Glaub with a DS and an HB with a pair of them. The hollowbody and the Dark Stars sort of meet in the middle, to my ears. With JO flats on it, the lows sound really deep--subterranean! Yet it's still capable of detailed highs. I really dig it.

Curious to know where you've got your internal preamp mid switches set?
After the amazing setup I got from Carl on Saturday, I can only fuss with the innards...and so I did.
The midrange default freq. is 600hz, which for whatever reason didn't seem to add or subtract much in my case. I tried tweaking the mids up and down and landed on 500hz. A little turn gives a lot of shift (through my rig, anyway). We'll see how it sounds live this weekend.
Speaking of live...another question...
I noticed this weekend in a live setting that I almost had to dime my 55-02D to get to the same stage volume that I got with my other bass (a Musicman Bongo) with the volume at 50% or so on the Bongo. Now, the Bongo has an 18v preamp, so I'd expect the Lakland not to be as "hot", but was surprised that I had to push it so hard.
Sunday afternoon, I went into the 55-02D's innards and dimed the preamp output (this attinuator has quite a range on it if you haven't fussed with it before!). Just wondering if anyone else has done the same and has a POV on how it worked for your output. Did the preamp stay clean after you dimed the output? Did you notice a volume difference live? I won't know until Sunday weather the tweak helps or not, although I think it will.

I dimed the output on my 44-02 and found that it was way too hot in comparison to my other basses to be usable. I then reduced it to approximate the output of my other basses so I could easily switch between them on-stage if necessary. The pre is really clean, so a heavy hand on the internal volume knob doesn't do anything but make it 'one louder'... no distortion or anything. You're right, it's not an 18v system, but it's probably one of the most powerful 9V systems you'll encounter.
Regarding the mid DIP switch, I went back and forth between 500 and 600 Hz for a long time, but then tried a 'secret' setting of 1 on, 2 on, 3 off, 4 on that really gave a big, wide, warm center to start with. I'm still not sure what frequency it is, but it works really well. Since I don't use the EQ much, if at all, it's a very nice, subtle spice when needed.

I've found the preamp really comes alive when the mid-freq is set to around 900hz. Give it a shot!

Ah, ok--must be the lighting, then. And it'll have Lakland pickups rather than Aeros (assuming it's stock).
nope, you're right, the color definitely isn't as white as it was in the pictures I saw (not complaining though haha, I still love it). It might just be the color it came as, it's more of a pearl than a white.
