It's cool to see pics of these together, you can see the differences: the bridge on mine is about an inch further toward the strap button, and I've got one less fret = 35" scale. Matty's has the KILLER BEM that all the older Lakies have... I'm envious ;). You can also see why I'd like Roger to make me 2 MM style pickguards: a B/W/B and an abalone (will match the dots).

Mine is a 2001 and figured (doesn't show well in the pic):

It is yellowish indeed and I like the looks. The thing is, the fretboard is pretty worn and grey in some places. Orange oil and mineral spirits clean and freshen the neck but not these worn spaces

Aaaah, well it looks good in the pic, nice figuring and color.

Maybe somebody here can help you w/ some good suggestions then.

:hyper:

I just noticed something...

Matty, will you please measure from your 4-76's neck end to the edge of your pickup. I think mine and yours have the same pup placement, meaning I won't need a custom pickguard..... unless Roger doesn't have a 4-76 template, but I think he does. :bassist:

Looks like Carl made Kobol a 35 incher by only altering the bridge placement and the neck, NOT the pup placement. I hope I'm right!

so the 35" four-stringers come with the same neck as the 34" ones, huh

As far as I know, this is the only 35" Lakland 4 string.

The necks are probably the same size and length, but the fretboard is fretted and dotted for 35" scale. Carl never told me how the neck came to be, since (I believe) they get their necks from an outside source nowadays. He may have built it from scratch like in the early days. I'll ask him next time I give him a call.

I've seen a few before. I think Ben Kenney of Incubus owns at least one - I remember a guy and a bass in a pic. Damn memory! :D
I figured the neck is the same as the 4-94 since you said it had one fret less
As far as I know, necks are made by a lumbermill, something like Wonder Wood IIRC
