Oh...lost track..you have that Glaub....cool!
I have been looking at the skyline 55-02, but have been unable to get my hands on one. I played the 44-01..
i was unable, in my short stay at a shop, to hone in on that distinct lakland sound ive heard..
was i just not going about it the right way and need more time, or are the skylines not on the same par (granted i know theyre the "lower" line)

Skyline basses have the same electronics as their U.S counterparts (bar the -01s) so soundwise, they should sound the same (taking body wood/fingerboard/bone nut etc into account).
There are also soundclips on the Lakland website that should be able to give you a pretty good idea of what these basses sound like.
If you like vintage(ish) tones, and a traditional feeling neck go for the 55-02, I have one and love it.
Another thing to keep in mind is that many people have bought their Laklands without playing them and were not disappointed.

The Skylines are usually great. Don't judge the -02 by the sound of the -01- they sound nothing alike.

these basses are AMAZING, i have never been a fan of the jazz width neck, but with the 1.6 neck is SO comfortable. is yours as heavy as mine is?? it actually feels good to me.Now I need to post the brother of matty's JO. The other TC JO with 1.6 neck. My all time favorite bass.

Yes, it is heavy. Don't know the weight, but I would guess around 10 pounds. I was warned by the dealer that the mods to this bass would probably decrease its resale value. Fortunately, the wide neck and heavy body are exactly what I love about it. It doesn't really feel heavy, just solid.

This is a killer pair of Lakies right here, Matty. That JOCS is fantastic--though mine is right up there in terms of tone and feel, for me.
