Given the current level of activity in the LOG threads, and the resultant downsides to other forum users, wouldn't it make sense for the LOG to have it's own subforum ? That would deal with the issues above wouldn't it ?

Yes it would. Problem is, those subforums are paid for by the companies. These LOG threads have gotten to the size where they may need their own subforum if they continue to grow at this rate, so curtailing some of the excess posts while still retaining all the post content is a good idea if Lakland isn't up on paying for a forum.

Do you really think so ? I think they'll be harder to follow. It's tough enough to follow the sub-threads that make up this thread as it is.

Just as an example, occasionally we get questions posted here that are answered days later, sometimes in a subsequent continuation thread. Imagine how hard it will be to find the answer to your question if you additionally have to find your answer as reply no.9 in a post that's a 15-part multi-quote.

I sincerely think that the only thing that will make these conversations more navigable is a sub-forum. And it sounds like that's going to be more convenient for non-LOG forum users too, if I'm not mistaken.

I get what you're saying. But I don't think it would be harder to find the answer to a question in a multi-quote post a page or two later vs. finding it 10 pages later. Also, hopefully folks will be selective in their multi-quoting. If it's an important question, I'd suggest trying to use a separate post. If someone's reacting to pics of several different Lakies, multi-quote would be much better (IMO).

Actually, I already have been using multi-quote to avoid the "time machine" effect when I'm catching up with the thread. As I go through the posts I've missed, I click the multi-quote button for each post I want to reply to. By the end, I find I'm usually able to delete half or more of those quotes because other folks have already responded or people have clarified or updated their own posts. Hear that, Doug?

Thank you!!! I've been saying this for a year!!! I love the thread and the LOG Forum, but it gets tough keeping track with 1000s of posts.

No acrylic. Carl and I decided to keep it without acrylic as I'm sold on the flats. The board is holding up fairly well. It's still obvious that I'm heavy handed

Well I'm finally in; got a 55-01 coming my way from New York via UPS. I bought it used from a player up there for a great price. From what I can tell it looks like an earlier model(?)-it has Gotoh tuners and is candy apple red which from what I've read was discontinued a few years ago. Looking forward to getting it, hopefully it's a 5ver I can get along with. I'll post pics when it arrives. Cheers!

Well I'm finally in; got a 55-01 coming my way from New York via UPS. I bought it used from a player up there for a great price. From what I can tell it looks like an earlier model(?)-it has Gotoh tuners and is candy apple red which from what I've read was discontinued a few years ago. Chances are you don't need to be quoting so many quotes. The alternative to reducing the massive post output is not having more of these giant threads unless they're in a paid forum. There are a whole lot of unnecessary and/or off-topic posts in the LOG threads, and those off-topic posts often get quoted, etc. While some in-thread low-substance or OT posting is perfectly fine in threads in the Basses forum, the degree to which it's occurring in the LOG threads is getting a bit out of control- it's basically like having one of the paid forums but for free. So I'm just coming up with a suggestion to possibly prevent something like that from needing to occur.

May I make a request ? If anyone comments on a picture, could you remove the actual picture from your quote, and leave just the text ? That's whether or not you do the multi-quote thing.

Even on a high-bandwidth connection the loading of multiple images can make the page jump around as it loads, and there's rarely (not ever ?) a need to see the same picture twice. Except maybe if it's 10 pages back or something and we've all forgotten what it looked like.

I don't think TalkBass has really had to worry about getting traffic in for years I don't have anything to do with the money side, but I'd venture that these threads aren't bringing in any additional dough to anyone but Lakland. They do use up a lot more bandwidth though, and in its current form it really should be in a paid subforum.
