As a frequent reader/rare poster of this forum, I'd suggest either showing thumbnails or no pictures at all in quotes. It seems like every time someone gets a new bass and posts a picture of it, all of his friends include the picture with their congratulatory remarks.

I'd prefer a thumbnail, but even no pictures at all would be better than scrolling through several consecutive posts with the same picture.

Hey Bryan! I thought that having a lot of hits on a website is good for the site. You get more money for running ads, etc. This thread is a little different than others. We are like a community, and joke around with each other. We have a blast here, and you guys reap the rewards of site traffic. Isn't this a win win?

True, but I already get lost with some of the OT back-and-forth here. I had no idea what half the quotes/replies on Saturday morning referred to.

Yeah, I have to skim A LOT sometimes, and get lost... but I'm definitely as guilty as the next guy for OT stuff.

May I make a request ? If anyone comments on a picture, could you remove the actual picture from your quote, and leave just the text ?

I don't think TalkBass has really had to worry about getting traffic in for years I don't have anything to do with the money side, but I'd venture that these threads aren't bringing in any additional dough to anyone but Lakland. They do use up a lot more bandwidth though, and in its current form it really should be in a paid subforum.

This is a bass forum...people here like to talk about Laklands. So Lakland should pay for a Lakland thread? So then if Fender is talked about too much, they need to buy a thread as well? I'm not looking to argue at all, just trying to understand this. I thought the whole point of a forum was to help it's users.

Well I'm finally in; got a 55-01 coming my way from New York via UPS. I bought it used from a player up there for a great price. From what I can tell it looks like an earlier model(?)-it has Gotoh tuners and is candy apple red which from what I've read was discontinued a few years ago. Looking forward to getting it, hopefully it's a 5ver I can get along with. I'll post pics when it arrives. Cheers!

Good idea! I am guilty of that myself! but some of these basses are so doggone nice that they NEED to be seen mroe than once!

as for multiquoting...will be tougher after a few drinks...gotta keep track more (and remember the one liners longer!!!) sheesh! almost there!

May I make a request ? If anyone comments on a picture, could you remove the actual picture from your quote, and leave just the text ? That's whether or not you do the multi-quote thing.

Even on a high-bandwidth connection the loading of multiple images can make the page jump around as it loads, and there's rarely (not ever ?) a need to see the same picture twice. Except maybe if it's 10 pages back or something and we've all forgotten what it looked like.

It's not simply that Laklands are talked about here. If that were the case, you wouldn't even have reached LOG #20 yet. As I stated, it is the degree of unnecessary post quoting that amounts to merely bumping and OT that occurs- the majority of posts in these threads belong to a small handful of people, so it's not an issue of there just being a lot of Lakland owners who like to talk shop. There are several users that post replies to nearly every other post made, most of which are not questions. You said it yourself- it's a community- other companies pay for that privilege.

I've felt that this has been the reason for the LOG Site. Bass talk here, LOG stuff there. A balancing act it is, but achievable it may be...

Anyways... the bass has only shipped today and I can not wait for it to be back. I'm going to crawl back into my hole and practice.

I added this at the end of the last thread, but just realized I should have put it in this thread in case anyone has any questions. Here's the post:

A note to some of the LOG members:

We've noticed a lot of folks in these threads tend to reply to a huge amount of posts, creating a new post each time for it and sometimes leading to strings of posts by the same users that last nearly a full page. It's causing a few issues in that it's effectively bumping these threads far too often, and upping the post count very quickly (there are currently more posts in the LOG threads than posts in the entire history of the Live Sound forum).

It would be very helpful if everyone could start utilizing the Multi Quote function if they plan on quoting/replying more than two posts at a time. For anyone that hasn't used it, it works by clicking on the little tab to the right of the "Quote" button on every post you wish to quote/reply to, and then click on the "Post Reply" button. All of the posts you quoted will then be in one post rather than long strings of replies.

I agree with what you say Tom. I can do without the quoting with pictures, Except Markus pictures are so good I could look art them over and over.
However. I do want to see users new Laklands. BIG pictures.....once.

I love all the photos. I print ever one of them out and decoupage them to my walls Seriously...I'm like a little kid...I don't ready books without pictures. I do understand the frustration when trying to cruise the thread on my phone. So excruciatingly painful. Make sense to delete the photos.

After two weeks of scheduling problems, and three hours in traffic to my favorite state (NOT!!!!), I finally picked up Amber.
Doug....did you ever play this thing?
Its like showroom new. I love that new bass smell.
I'll be honest, I wanted to see the former Blondie since her facelift I didn't even look at Amber there.
I did not really see her till I got her home.

Congrats, John! Glad you finally got it. Yes, I imagine with all the basses Doug's had, Amber hasn't had a chance to get mojo'd up or anything. (Not that I have room to talk these days.)

Milwaukee/Chicago has been a lousy drive almost every time I've done it. It SHOULD take 90 minutes, but it usually takes three hours. I-94 sucks!
