LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #50!!!

Well, after trying to find the time to head to my luthier for an *epic* long time, I finally sat down with my buzzy-a55ed 55-02 and an the allen key last night. I think the buzzing's gone and I can get this bass back onto stage duty. I'm giving it a day to settle in before deciding whether or not it really has to go to an expert, btu I played it to bits last night and all seemed well.

Bizarrely, I wondered just yesterday what the most esoteric Lakland would be, and wondered if there would ever be a fretless 5-string Decade. I think it'll sound awesome! There's a chi-sonic fretless darryl jones out there somewhere, along with a video clip on Youtube. It sounds good, so chi-sonics seem to be the way to go with fretless!

interesting news on Gibson...I had no idea they were ahving these issues....

LAkland DID make one Lakie-Bird....the bass playa for Papa Roach has it....

Carl has quoted a few but never built one....so you can have a custom "Pedigo" bird....from the same hands that built teh first several Lakies and continues to do "special" black ops projects for lakland...

As for the question of Fender-sounding Laklands...
The first bass guitar Dan Lakin and Hugh McFarland made was an attempt to combine all the sounds Leo Fender ever made into one bass guitar. A Lakland version of a Leo Fender design is going to nail the sound.

I tell you what I'd like to see though. I've been listening to the Kings of Leon's new album (I think it's called 'come up sunday'?) and the bass sound on that is INCREDIBLE. It's particularly good on a track called 'Pony Up'.

He's using a Gibson Thunderbird running through an Ampeg Heritage SVT full-stack.

Given all the problems Gibson are having at the minute (the guitar salesman in one of Scotland's biggest music shops told me recently that there isn't a single Gibson coming in from the factory that doesn't have a flawed/damaged finish, and that about ONE IN THREE needs a couple of hours with their in-house luthier to set it up so that it's playable!), why don't Lakland start making some Gibson-inspired designs?

It clearly seems to be working for Mike Lull, after all...

BTW, I know Lakland have new stuff coming out all the time nowadays, and a big model catalogue, it just struck me as odd that since their strapline is 'familiar in aesthetics, revolutionary in performance', they don't make a copy of the thunderbird or the SG. They'd definitely be living up to their motto then!

well...better amoungst friends!

I had a similar siuation with a tape deck decades ago (TES - we played tapes "back in the day!).....it would not work for anyhting...took it to a firnds house, we litterally ripped it apart looking for the issue...everything tested out fine...after about 2 hours we realized the "pause" button was pushed in! duh! never even thought about such a simple fix!

talk about feeling like a wiener!!!

was still fun...we were lisening to good musc and talking the entire time so it was not a "total" waste!

sometimes a little neck adjustment is all that is needed....hope this solved the problem Jess!

Thanks on the basses! Necks were swapped back and the fretless JO CS is gone...but up for sale in the classifieds. The Decade will soon look like this (brown sparkle):
