That's pretty much what's going on here:

Except of course they've built both pickups into one housing, limiting placement options somewhat.

oh yeah, that's right. Interesting, thanks!
Only they decided to leave out many available options whereas my idea is you can have 9 bass variants with one 5-way switch and even more - with two 3-way switches.
Also Lakland could customize easy switching pattern to your request without any expense involved
Also, this Enfield does look unusual and definitely not for everyone, whereas the concept we're talking about utilizes conventional MME covers. Think MM HH or take a look at Good Charlotte' Lakland 55 HH passive in their Like It's Her Birthday vid.

Yeah, I appreciate they haven't got all the options you talk about, but your concept immediately brought that bass to mind.

I think I could live with a pickup (no two actually) of that sort with 4 options, jazz neck-side, jazz bridge-side, MM and straight (non-reverse) P. In fact .... not even sure I'd want the P option on the bridge pickup.

It will be interesting to see where this goes ....

Andy

Here's my Squier CVP with Lakland JO neck on it. It plays like a dream.
The logo was taken off by one of the previous owners but the serial seems to date the neck around 2005.

The neck poket has a 2mm gap down the side but the neck seems stable enough for now.

I'm not familiar with the Jerry Scheff (lipstick pickup) sound. How does it compare to the straight J ? Brighter ? Middier ?

Or do you just mean further towards the neck ?

Andy

just closer to the neck

bridge P is not so very popular indeed. A double P bass makes me think of B.C. Rich and, lately , of Fender Blacktop, so who knows - maybe they will grow big :D although I don't think so. Anyway, I'm glad you're diggin'

I played one of those Blacktops with the double P pickups the other day. Can't say much for the bass in terms of weight (heavy!) or the neck, but I really liked the tones.

AT LAST,

NBD: LOG LE converted to PJ stacked VT/VT from the hands of Carl!
It is one gorgeous bass, indeed. I only played half an hour and it sounds just great. Maybe not dyed-in-the-wool P sound, but nothing that can't be changed with a tone knob
The bridge J is dead silent - I know Carl had something special on his mind as he told me so. More of the 60-ies sound

Now get this: a BEM neck on a Skyline. Not the fretboard, as I got me the great B&B rosewood one, but the back of the neck. Pure awesomeness!

Anyway, this bass doesn't [officially] exist until I get some pics. Will do it later.

The bad part: my wife kinda didn't realise that I as bying a new bass so she's not talking to me now. So back to remodelling the bathroom, and I better do it right! :D

the other bad part: the preamp didn't arrive, will have to clear up the things

P.S. Thanks John!

Wow. Its about time you got that thing.
Enjoy Bro!!! :bassist::bassist::bassist:

Had a great two set, two band show at the Crossroads in Garwood, NJ last night. This was a reschedule of our "Irene" show.

First set was a 30 minute instrumental set, over photographs by my good friend, Marco Catini (Welcome to MARCO CATINI PHOTOGRAPHY). Here the calm before the storm. (that's my wife on the left on electric cello...yes, we are an f-clef family!)

Second was the Link Removed. Marco was in the audience, getting some great shots. I really like this one.

It was a great night. Nothing beats playing original music. We had a packed house for our sets. The sound engineer there has his stuff together, and can pretty much deal with almost anything bands throw at him. Lakland love was in full effect from my end - Stock 55-02 on the first set, Nordy dual-coil+OBP-3 equipped 55-01 on the second. Total tonal fun.

Both groups will be recording live the sets we played at some point in the coming months. I'll post when those are out.

I bought the Skyline HB in my avatar sight unseeen from Bass Central. Absolutely perfect- neck, frets, finish, neck joint, pickup height, weight, sound. OK, I didn't dig the stainless rounds. :D

noice!!!

congrats!

Right. I remember him talking about them but I eagerly await an explanation :)

that will take up a whole page of the LOG thread! maybe it is worth a thread on the LOG site...Denis?

Ok group, here's is why I was asking about black Lakland Bridges earlier.

Any suggestions on how to remedy my dilemma? Aside from putting chrome bridges on the others.

wow....nice stealthy family! I think someone likes black and tan!

Well gang I just got a new one !:hyper: Its a 2007 JO5 and its such a good bass !! I am waiting for a clear pickguard from Jeannie's can't cover that beautiful wood ! I just slapped in a Audere and I am starting to dig it !:bassist: Here are a few pics w/o Audere and no pickguard but hopefully soon .

GREAT looking bass! I agree...clear is the way to go! just curious...is that a Skyline or US?

Trade the others for Lakland's !!:D

problemo solved!!!! I agree...

Aside from electroplating it, I'd actually say leave it. the bridge plus the tuners work well, even though the rest of the bass is totally stealth. In fact, I'd say that the Fenders pretty desperately need either chrome-toned bridges or black tuners. All the hardware should match for a nice, unified look.

I agree...electroplate or see if Hipshot can get you one...and replace the tuners on the Geddy while you are at it (or get a Lakland 44-60 instead!)

Why? Well, i have two CV Squiers, they play and sound just as good as the Fenders and Lakland's ive owned in the past.

They dont look as nice but after owning quite a few basses over the years and spending a lot of money i really didnt have ive realised you dont need to spend a lot on a a bass to be happy.

Plus the JO is a Jazz and my CVP is a P so a JO isnt an option.

I've since found out that the neck has come off a Fender MIM Jazz bass so i know the holes are fine, but the neck pocket will be loose so ill need to shim that.

If it is too much hassle then i might just keep the neck and save up for a body that will fit it. Any idea if Lakland would sell me a Skyline body?

1) I agree ...money does not necessarily mean a good bass.....that has been proven many times....I agree that Squier CVs are as good as or better than some Fenders out there...

2) glad to know is "should fit"

3) I like your thoughts on buying a true Lakie Body....not sure if Lakland would sell a Skyline body or not...they usually come with the entire bass and I know Lakland cleaned house before moving so not much "left over parts" any more...

look for a body in the classifieds?

I'm looking to get a lakland 5594/5502. Which has the better tone, The vintage ones w/ bart/SD setup or the Newer ones w/ the LH setup?

well...that all depends on the sound you want...I perosnally like the LH3 better...more versatile and brighter sounding...

the Barts are darker and some say "better".....I have heard both in recordings and they both sound stelllar...I think live is where you will more variety.....if you like dark and smooth...go Barts...if you want brighter and more variety..Lh3

55-02 deluxe LTD Amber with Maple FB

Better pics coming soon... along with a number

05 DJ5 sparkle black with Aeros rosewood FB
Pending pics, just use your imagination.

a beauty!!!! NEVER should have sold mine (one of the first AMBERS out there!!)

I find myself with a dilemma:
I want a black P with maple Jazz neck (Lakland Jazz neck, no less), but i don't really like Lakky's inhouse P pups. i have a set of Nordy NP4's that i love, or i'd be happy with the Fralin's that came in older BG's and DD's.
Any suggestions on how to make this happen without a LOT of swapping parts and buying 2 basses?

I say order a US Lakie and have them put in the pickup you want....if you want a Skyline...exchanging is the only alternative...

The 44-64 has a jazz neck on it, which is the Duck Dunn model. You can get a new US model 44-64 in blk with maple board..... Get it and throw the Nordys in it. Then post pics, of course.

I agree....
