I'm not sure yet.. I'm stuck in my dorm room, with my 15 watt Silvertone amp (Which I'm not even allowed to have... shhh), and not being able to turn up to 11. I guess we'll find out this weekend!

It feels good. Still undecided on strings though, these flats are too mellow for what I want.

The neck on that 4-94 looks incredible.

I think w the Chi-sonics (from what I've heard, not experienced) rounds would be great. If you aren't looking for old school thump, flats may not be your bag. But don't get rid of em, you may want them for recording or a different project.

The neck is like buttah on my 4-94 - it's the main reason I bought a Lakland over several other high end brands. Birdseye maple fb FTW of course too :D

Hope you can crank it up soon man, have fun. I'd love to get either a Decade or a Hollowbody, although none of my projects right now call for a bass like that.

Gig pic from last weekend! This is from the Dockside Bar at Dave & Busters in Philly. Beautiful night at that point, but the last 2 acts got rained out :(

I think my Shirley looks real purdy in this shot :smug:

AND, great bass face. :D

I agree to a point with this. I think that the only way to give the skylines a near-perfect QC is to move to a Sadowsky metro-style manufacturing model. But then you're easily doubling the prices. Trying one out before putting down your dollars is a good, easy way to usually avoid getting a lemon.

I just bought another Skyline DD the other day here on TB, I am REALLY disappointed with the bass. This is why I decided to post my question about QC.

I WILL NOT buy another Skyline again sight unseen, I will have to physcially inspect it. With that said, I have had some great Skyline basses over the years, this one is nice as it is pretty lite weight as far as Skylines go. But there are some other issues with it that I find rather disappointing. I am not keeping this one, my buddy likes it enough that he is buying it from me.

As for the Sadowsky Metro series, I played one that belonged to a friend...i really didn't care for it. It is no big deal, Ihave enough basses, just wanted to add one more piece of wood to the collection. Something will pop up when I least expect it and I will jump on it. I can't play much right now anyway so buying anything would be a waste of money...I will just keep my eyes open and see what pops up.

I was more bringing the Metro up as an example of how one avoids the QC issues that any production-line axe may display than as something you might want. I think your decision to physically inspect your next Skyline is the right one.

I looked at your equipment list. You've got some nice stuff, including a touch of the Mike Lull magic. Nice. But why would you have bought a Skyline DD when you already had a US one?

Decade is a pretty cool bass.

I agree!

Wow, thats an amazing picture, and an amazing bass!

Love it man!

Yeah...throw some rounds on it!

Sorry to hear that man:-/

Thanks, I am a gear whore! I love the Lulls, they are great basses. For the money I will take a Lull over a Sadowsky any day. I also really like the Laklands too...those are my two favorite builders.

As you mentioned, I do have some nice stuff (not bragging), the reason I like the Skyline DD is the feel. I am a creatures of habit. with that said, I was not comfortable taking my "high-end" gear to no or low paying gigs. I am super paranoid about my gear. I need to have a few pieces that are strictly gig basses. I use the USA stuff for recording, practicing or just goofing around here at the house or in my little home studio. There is no way on God's green earth I am going to take a '63 Jazz bass to a dive bar or even any of my other pieces for that matter.

I have tried several MIM Fenders and even some Fender Japan stuff, but they are typically too heavy for me due to the physical limitations (which is also why I haven't been playing for almost 11 months).

...and my LOG PJ, LH-3 pre stompbox, and a pair of matching MMEs left Moscow yesterday. A few more short days for the humanity and a killing wait for myself. This time the transfer is the longest I've had

Just came to me, should I call him Carlo? after you-know-who who tamed him for me

Matt:

Good price. It was listed at 1160, and it had the Nordy pups. I say "had" because...it was sold. Darn no website updatin' varmints. ;-)

As for the one up FS, it's a beauty, but I can't take the maple/black block FB. The rosewood/white pearl block one is what was turning me right now. So, I'll just pine away for a 5'er Glaub P/J, like the 4 string in this awesome trio (from Lakland's FaceBook photos):

welcome aboard!!!! nice bass! I am happy you finally "get it"....:bassist::hyper:

BOTH dealers are cool guys to deal with....

yes - limited edition means one run...das ist alles....no more...love that color!!!

Hi all, I figured this is the best place for me to ask a couple of questions. I have recently decided to take the plunge and buy a new skyline 55-01. I have been looking around and really don't know the best place to pick one up. i have found a limited edition trans blue one at two different shops online(basscentral & bassclubchicago) I am also wondering about these limited editions (does that mean fewer than maybe 100 made in this color) And are all these newer skylines PLEKED

Hi All.
Sorry if this has been asked before (im sure its come up) but ive just brought a JO neck and planed to put it on a Squier CVP.
Im pretty sure its not going to be a straight forward task but does anyone have any idea how much work might be involved?

Thanks for any pointers.

A Lakland neck on a Squire??? first question is WHY? UI assume it willl take quite a bit of work to make it fit....just buy a JO and save the hassle.....

A few people are not the majority.

Skylines coming out under the new ownership with issues are no not more or less than what was coming out when Dan had the company at this point.

The new ownership gets the Skylines series from the same place they were before they took over ownership.

I can't think of no bass company that at some point, has not put out a less than stellar product from time to time. And I'm talking in every price range on the market.

Amen Jauqo! JP and Bo are aware of the recent "issues" and are taking care of them....I have played many Skylines and 9as Greg says)...teh overwelming majority of them are tellar...i would still put the Skyline series (as a series) against several US manufactured basses...
