Holdsg, I'm not talking about resale value, I'm thinking about saving up for one of these.

I've been GASin for a Lakie 5er, and either want a 55-01/02 or 55-64 (complete opposite ends of the spectrum, I know). 55-01 w ChiSonics sounds like it would be a great way to get thick glorious tone while still having the flexibility of an onboard eq.

I highly recommend the chi-sonics and LH-3 upgrade for XX-01 basses. Since they now have the 5-string versions that fit the 55-01, that should be a sweet upgrade. If you want some sound clips of a 44-01 modded that way, you can find them on the LOG site in the "stable"

I just spoke with Leo at Lakland. He told me that they don't have those pickups in stock and they have to be special made. However, they won't have the shiny Chisonic covers because those don't fit in the 5501 series.

He's gonna give me a ring back with how long it'd take to build a set and the price.

I'm also curious, he said they are single coil only. How do these sound and is their much noise?

Thanks guys! :)

I was going after jazz bass on steroids, and I now have that in spades. They are hot, but the ones I have on my 44-01 are very quiet, I have never noticed much hum, too happy with the big fat tone.
you could listen for yourselves here (if you don't mind the way I play bass):

And the on-again, off-again saga of the single-coil 55-01 replacement chis continues.
Sometimes you hear they are ready, other times not. Last I heard they were ready, but really only Bo knows for sure.

Are the Chi's considered hot single coils?

Yes...hot.

Has anyone here tried a 44/55-64 with a humbucking ChiSonic instead of the P pu? I know there's some darkstar equipped ones out there, but I'd be curious how that config would sound.

Yep! Used to have a single coil Chisonic in my sea foam 44-64. Sounded awesome!!...but a lot like my 44-60 CS. Edit...missed that you said humbucking.

No worries Markus, I was actually more curious about the perceived difference between the -64 and the -60, so your response was more helpful than you thought ;) I was using the Lakland website clips of the 44-60CS as a reference for the CS sound, and wanted to know if having one in the P position made a notable difference vs. the solo'd neck pu on the 44-60CS

So maybe what I really want is a 55-60 w ChiSonics. hmmmmmmm... oh the GAS! Thank god I'm broke - but it's good to dream/plan for the future right?

edit: Holdsg, just saw your post, not in the market as of yet, but I'll pester the seller about the differences between the P and the Chi.

Thanks guys!
