I just picked up this very nice USA Glaub from hillside bass. I've needed a vintage P in the collection. I think this is it. Very nice.
Looks like I'll be joining this club soon as I'm getting a 5501 again. I have come to the conclusion that the 5501 series may be the perfect 5 string for me with a slight modification to the electronics.

That's a nice piece of ash.
Funny, even though I'm a dedicated fan of coffee-table basses, there's something about a natural ash bodied bass that really does it for me. Especiallya natural ash P Bass with a black PG and a maple fretboard.
But that one's pretty durned sweet as well. The Lakland body shape really suits the look.

Yeah, play the hell out of the bass first... I think you'll be more than content with the nut. If not, call Dan at Lakland and ask to have a bone nut shipped.
I might be 'slightly' biased, but I still think the 55-01 is still the most versatile bass in my stable. Also looks great in all-black with DR Neons!

They will have to cut the nut(ouch) for the bass and fit it.
I've been going to Amazon for the last couple of weeks and typing in "Lakland 55" and they have a Lakland Skyline Series L5560CR3TS 5-Strings Bass Guitar, Three Tone Sunburst that has a price that fluctuates wildly. Today it's a crazy low of $953.00

I emailed Bo about the Chisonics yesterday. If they are available ill probably send it to Lakland to install an lh3 and chisonics.
I highly recommend the chi-sonics and LH-3 upgrade for XX-01 basses. Since they now have the 5-string versions that fit the 55-01, that should be a sweet upgrade. If you want some sound clips of a 44-01 modded that way, you can find them on the LOG site in the "stable"

You probably won't recoup 100% of the investment, but I'd say you'd recoup at least 50%-75%. Since the XX-01's are Lakland's least expensive models, I would say there's some room for recoup. But that's not why you would upgrade, is it? its all about getting a tone you love.
