Lakland Owners Group #54

Back to the wonderful world of Laklands as I've been mostly dead all day.

Okay, I'm thinking about finally giving up my F P and going with a Skyline equivalent (and I use that term loosely as they are !=) but would like a 44-64 with the Jazz taper in maple, no blocks. Does such a Skyline beast exist? In black of course.

BTW - just installed a set of Delano PMVC 4 FE/M2 pups on that P in combination with a John East P-Retro, talk about boomy grit :)

As far as I know, black/maple/jazz taper with no blocks is unobtanium in a Skyline P. Unless its been modded or refinished. There could be a random prototype out there in the wild, but I've never seen one like that.

Of course, you can order you a US with those exact specs, if you were made of $.

Seriously, though, you now have a P-bass on 'roids, what's not to love about that?

Gary's right. About the only workaround I can think of is getting a maple Skyline JO neck and mating it with a black Skyline Glaub body.

Believe me, I love this bass - sonically it's exactly what I want in a P, but it's a neck profile thing. So I was thinking that a Lakland neck would fit the bill. If I could just find a Lakland maple neck with a 1.5" nut, I would put it on the Fender body, but I know Lakland probably would not like that one iota.

More to the point, that could be a tricky fit at the neck pocket. Not positive, though.

That's probably a very true statement and one thing I don't want to do is mess with "shaving" down either the neck or pocket. I could see that opening up a whole intonation nightmare - not gonna do it, wouldn't be prudent.

Would you believe I actually know someone who hated that movie?

Wallace Shawn was dating an English Professor at Wash U (St. Louis) when I was there in the late 80's. Many times "Inconceivable" was shouted in his general direction as he wandered the campus.

"I've spent many years developing an immunity to nice basses...er...Iocaine powder." :)

(BTW...I am surprised you haven't called me out on my recent post in that other thread you frequent.)
