Well, I *did* notice you were awaiting something new and sunbursty...

I'm really behind on my TB calling out these days. The 7-month-old is taking up a *lot* of my time... I sometimes come on via my iPhone (like im doing now), but I don't have the patience to scan through the pages so much on this tiny screen.

Will do. I'm surprised that they weren't more popular around TB. The red I'm not sure about but the charcoal I saw in person is much more subdued than it looks in online pictures.

Sound wise I'll just record some stuff straight in and you can judge for yourself. I haven't heard a bad sounding Lakland ever.

I think they goofed with the colours. The red might look fantastic in person, but neither are compelling in photos. If they offered the same burst as on the limited edition 5502 this year, or maybe amber or natural, you might have seen more action on the AJ front.

Or if the first big review had been by Ed Friedland rather than premier guitar.

Not as yet, but will let everyone know when I have some.

But to give a little more insight, I would have to say that they bring out the character of an unplugged bass and are extremely transparent to my ears. They don't color the tone as I've found with some other pickups like the Fralins I had on there previously. I've found this to be true of Delanos across the board as I also have them on an MIA Deluxe J and Modulus Flea. I'm now thinking about putting a set on my 44-02. :)

One thing to note about the single large poles is that they can pick up sympathetic vibrations quite easily so no clamming aloud.

For the first few years of Skyline production a jazz width neck was an option for the Skyline Glaub. I have seen 3-5 of these for sale on this board over the years but all have been rosewood boards. (My 2004 LPB Skyline Glaub has a factory jazz neck).

In addition I have seen at least 2-3 Skyline Glaubs come through with a 1.6" neck. I have no idea why and neither did Lakland but it happens and my guess is that it happened more than the few times I have seen it.

While it's possible to get a Glaub and trade for a JO neck I have found that the Skyline necks aren't perfect easy swaps all the time. I tried twice and both times was foiled and would have had to plug and redrill to make it work.

There were a bunch of early black/maple Glaubs sold it's possible that one of them or more had a jazz width neck. Unfortunately that leads to just watching and waiting. Look for anything 2002-04.

Yeah. I thought the DJ-5 was going to be my next Lakland. I was in denial. :) I finally got to check out a 55-64 last month, and loved it. Now, it's mine.

My first new Lakland. If they had made the 5'ers in black, I would have hunted one of them down. May have Pat W paint it to match my 55-02 fretless, but that can wait, as the 3TB is growing on me. Flats and a setup, and then we'll see how it plays for real.

The wait for the DJ continues...not long now.

Well in the end I decided to keep the Fender and just get a Jazz neck for it, tone won out over brand. ;)

Very tight! Nice work on your part. Guitar was a little to prominent for my tastes though and although the lyrics didn't offend, they were a bit sophomoric on track 01 - not that there's anything wrong with that.

You were at Wash U in the late 80's? The world is a very small place. So was I.

What???? I was there 1988-1990. The South Forty looks totally different now, since they tore down the old Shepley and Elliot towers and built newer hi-rises. Plus there is a big extension on Mallinkrodt Center where that side parking lot used to be. I had a good time there.

Guitar a tad too loud (or maybe just too much) for my taste, but excellent bass on these tracks. Great job!!

I was there from 1989-1991. When I was back home last summer I drove around over there checking out my old U. City neighborhood (I lived about three blocks from Blueberry Hill). Mostly I was on campus at night for classes because I worked downtown off City Center during the day.

Are you still in St. Louis? If so, next time I'm back home we should catch up for a drink or some music.

Thanks for the comments guys. I personally like the big guitars. Strangely enough, our guitar player was the one saying we should turn the guitars down a little bit. Who would have thunk it. And of course the lyrics are supposed to be sophomoric Black Bart ;) we're just trying to have some fun.

Hess, you are a GAS fiend! Would love to have that exact bass but with a maple board. Congrats on the new addition!
