I played a Lakland yesterday at Sam Ash and loved the way it played but when I got a chance to plug it in I was amazed that it sounded so hollow and had no bottom end no matter where I spun the dials. It sounded really middy and nasally like a trebled out P Bass. It was a 55-22 if I remember. 5 string with a neck single and the humbucker in the bridge position. Controls were Vol. Balance. Bass. Mid. Treble. And 3 position toggle for the HB. Maple finger board and cherry quilt top. Are all Laklands like that? I even put a new battery in it. No warmth. I really like the way it played....REALLY!

Weird...No not all Lakland are like that...57 threads of love for Lakland Obviously something not right. Did you check the amp adjustment?

Definitely not normal, although there's no way to tell if the propblem was amp controls or something in the bass' electronics. I have to dial back the lows on my 5501 by leaning on the bridge pup and dialing down the bass knob....and it's still thick as a brick!

DEFINITELY something wrong there!!! That bass should been like to voice of God!!!

If you can make it up to Orlando area to Bass Central, you'd get a much better selection of Laklands to play with.

Got my new 55-60 today. I got it with the mint green pickguard, and it gives it a real unique look. Its like the color changes. I love it. I wish my camera could catch the color better, but this bass is amazing! Glad to be a new endorser of Lakland basses!

Yeah...that's what I like about silver...you can easily make it warmer or colder but changing surrounding colors.

Yeah-silver reflects what's around it and produces cool effects. The mint 'guard plays well with it IMO, and is quite unique.

What years did they use those boards? I'd like to think my '99 has some pretty sweet BEM action

from the beginning up to about 1998/99...yours does by the looks of it...after that there was still some SWEET BEM but not as sweet.

My playing time on the bass the cobalts are on is about 30 minutes to an hour a day - 7 days a week.

Hm. Looks like I accidentally left out the part where that fretboard would be *flamed* maple...

Same here. Which is why it now looks like I've lost track of how to spell...

can I use that as an excuse? my fingers just get in teh way of my typing...hence wy wider string spacing is good for me!

Another question from a Lakie newbie-how open is Lakland to unusual options? After playing the Orange Wonder P5 a lot last night, although I realize the body shape isn't optimal for me, I have major GAS for that Nordy P behemoth pickup on a 55-94.........the sound is absolutely killer.
The Markus Orange Wonder is now officially available for the same 2099 shipped that I paid Chef. I'll post it in the classiieds this weekend.

Yep, you can absolutely get that. They still do jazz bass pickups on the 55-94 body when asked, I'm sure they'd do a P. And in any finish that Pat Wilkins is willing to do.
