Can anyone tell new how to decipher the Lakland model codes? 55 01, 55 02, 55 07, what do they mean?

5=number of strings
5=Scale length (35")
Last number is usually the year it was created, unless it is a model bass it was designed after soundwise...then it's the year that model was created...like:

60=60's Jazz bass
64=1964 P bass
76=Stingray

This is not the way the 01 and 02 series basses are.

I have a question regarding my 55-94:

I have had it for about 3 months now, it is an unbelievable instrument by the way, but I have one small issue with it. The bass sounds noisy when plugged into my amplifier unless I touch something metal on the bass; this makes me think it's a grounding issue. But, when I have the front MM pickup selected only, it is quiet as can be. So, my conclusion is that the neck pickup is either naturally noisy or it has an issue. Any suggestions?

Oh...I think you're right, but I don't think I came before the 02, but maybe it did. My mind was locked on the US basses for some reason.

the first two digits of your serial number (on a Skyline) will give you the year of manufacture.

Thanks. The year being the same is a coincidence then. That is why I was confused.

So the 5501s are just a lower line than the 5502s?

'01s are indeed the cheapest as to retail price, and they have bartolini pickups and pre-amp versus in-house Hansons, but does not necessarily mean a "lower line". Many folks dig the '01s just as much as other models.
