Well I guess it's a good thing considering your little slice of goodness coming your way soon.

Don't say anything about throwing caution to the wind right now. Just recovered from a 24 hour coastal storm with 60mph winds and 80-90mph gusts. First time for me in hurricane force winds, not something I want to repeat anytime soon. Power went out all day - just came back on not too long ago and what do I do? Sign in to the LOG and TB :D

Guess I really shouldn't complain though, folks back East had/have it much worse than I did. Thankful for small blessings and Laklands that you can play without power.

yikes!!! Sorry to hear that Brian...kinda wierd to have storms like that where you are huh???

Has anyone seen these pics on google?

Seems like it is a Lakland protype HB?

Someone posted in the HB club here on TB that they just bought it.
Looks amazing! WOW!

Sure Greg and Doude can shed some light on the subject :)

that was a proto built many years ago....lipstick and Bart pickups....they were trying out a few different pickup combos to see what worked best....that top is wild!!!

I have seen it in person but not played it...maybe I am OCD but having 2 such VERY different pickups and the controls they way they are turn me off from that bass....

it comes up for sale periodically...

I never saw it listed for sale...CRAP!! :( :(
Wonder what asking price was?
Looks like it has a scheff single lipstick in the bridge...and a hanson 44-94 MM style bucker mid ship...
yes? Or a bart? too small to tell in pic?

Controls are a bit off kilter ??? wonder what they do?

I think it is simple volume and tone...and a swicth for the pickup selection

Lions and tigers and bears oh my...hahaha!!
Speaking of the Bears...Chicago NFL fans are bummin tonight huh?
Not me..being a Vikings fan...A bears loss works for me :)
Sorry fellas :) lol

yup...they were BAD that night....sorry that the Bears beat your VIKs today...I was hoping foer the opposite!!!

Yeah we're fine. Didn't see any Oz-ness, but plenty of other flying stuff - glad the neighbors cat was inside. I was glad we have the Bassment. Not only is it good for keeping the low tones away from the neighbors - under the garage cement floor and cement walls on two sides - but could provide a nice little shelter should the top two stories decide to go for a stroll. Looks like we're in for round two starting tomorrow morning. Hopefully not as bad though.

wow....2 days in a row!? sorry dude...hope there is no damage to the newly purchased Rhino ranch....

Bummer about the weather Bart. Hope that's not coming south.
Spending the week in St. George, UT with extended family.
Supposed to be sunny and 70 degrees today. Just had to say that.

View from house we are renting this week.

Sweet view Gary!!!

FYI, Bass Gear Magazine issue #9 is now live, and we feature both a Link Removed as well as a Link Removed.

just read those on the LOG...GREAT articles Tom!!!! some excellent pictures you got as well....they sure are putting out some cool stuff these days!

wonder if the engraving will become standard? I hope so..adds another level of class to the line!!!!

tracking says my 5502 should be here Friday......

yahoo....cannot wait to read later and see what you think.

Nice...a free day to play all day!!!

yup!

Thats my old bass, the action was insanely low. I miss it. I almost bought it back but my wife has forbid me from buying more basses. Not sure why, she won't say. I think she bought me one for Christmas.

ahh......either a good sign or wishful thinking!!!

I am still awaiting more travel pics.... :eyebrow::hyper:

Hey guys,

I am shopping for a new bass, and really want to go the Lakland route. I have a Classic 70s Jazz. Would like to stay with the Jazz sound, and of course have some tonal variation.

So far,

Lakland Daryl Jones

Skyline 44-AJ.

Sorry for the thread derail!

The AJ is active and thus, will give you more tonal avriety BUT if you want a good classic J sound, the DJ or the 44-60 would be GREAT choices!!!

let us know more about what you want and we can further assist!!!

Get the DJ.

done....what Gary says!

Very cool - I have an 02 in black with the LH3 and like it a great deal. Like you I also have a Lakland coming in on Friday, it is a trans blue 4401 maple with Chi and LH3. I believe it originally belonged to Holdsg. Looking forward to giving it a whirl.
gab

you are really gunna liek that bass!!! gary takes GREAT care of his stuff!

I'm prepared for this to be catch and release.
I don't have any other 35's, and I'm very much ok with the rest of my toolbox.

But, I like trying stuff, I've always admired the 5502D cherryburst, and I'll enjoy it no matter how long it sticks.

Chef....don't set yourself up for a "catch and release"...I REALLY think you will like it....

Glad to see it stayed in the family. Seriously good "value" bass.

GREAT value for the coin!!!

Glad to hear she arrived in the shape ya hoped for.
I knew it would be.
Truly JEALOUS on this one man...ya beat me to the punch :)
Dibs ...as we already discussed :D

That's a great pair...of Laklands :bassist:
Congrats!

OK..OK....HOW did I miss the picture!!??? I have been going page by page!!!

Gordon...PLEASE repost!!!! I gotta see the pair!

Invalid Link Removed

awesome bass and GREAT presentation dude!!!!

AH HA!
You ARE going to get that.
Lucky dawg you...
Stunner of a Lakland.
Never saw a Lakland with Abalone markers of any kind.
KILLER BASS!
:bassist::hyper::bassist::hyper:

see below:

This was mine...sounded and lloked AWESOME! But I had to let it go to pay for the first of the Bubinga Bros...

the neck was rare very old rain forest rosewood...(cultivated from a downed tree so no trees were killed to make the bass...the wood was certified legal)

You obviously miss a lot of the action at the LOG site. :)

Cannot see it...my Mcafee "site advisor" still does not like the LOG site from when it was having issues before. And blocks it.
So I maybe can Disable that or something at some point?

GET RID of Mcafee....NOW I know why I never see you on the LOG anymore....get free AVG...works just as good and is free...and allows you access to the LOG!

Why do I crave a mint candy after viewing this? ;)

I like it!

ha ha....agreed...

Ok, well....ummmm.......
I WAS going to hold off till it arrived to share.
But I just paid it off and it ships out on Monday.
So since it IS now paid for it IS mine :)
So I cannot hold off till it arrives Thursday or Friday to post pics.

This is my first brandy new US Lakland purchase.
Kinda bet is will not be my last :)
I have had my eye on this beauty for over a year now.
I LOVELOVELOVE me some Buckeye Burl!
And had been drooling over the pics monthly on BC.

I finally decided enough was enough!
So to preserve my sanity and mental state I listed and sold two of my basses and added a bit O cash.
The result will most likely end up being my favorite bass of all time I am guessing.
Hope these 44-94's are all they are cracked up to be :)

Here she is :D

LaklandDLX4494BuckeyeBurlwebsize2.jpg

that is one awesome bass Dan.....very nice!!!

hahahah +1....stupid "auto correct"
more like "auto screwup" :D

yup....My Droid has the autocorrect turned off..I just have "user error" issues.

Very cool Gordon!

Not to worry Dan, I'm sure it will be all that and a bag of chips as you say. Seriously, I love my US 44-94, weight, comfort, sound, etc. Just a superb piece of bass goodness.

On another note, I just received a package from Lakland today, a complete set of black hardware, hmmm... what could that be for?

I had to think for a bit.......that will look "stealthilyy killer"

Welcome to my effin' world.

LOL!!! well..at least THAT did not auto-correct!

+1

The Skylines are great, but the US models are much muchier :D

"much muchier"??? :eyebrow:

I have a question that I could not answer from the Lakland site - do they still make the 44-07? I did not see it listed anywhere but keep seeing it around here and frankly have really started a lust fest for one.
Thanks,
gab

sorry...no....produciton issues with the CHI-humbuckers...so they are gone for good (?)

this means that my 55-07 aint going now where ever....ever ...ever...

They don't make that model anymore. Chisonic humbuckering pickups are discontinued. Dan...you need to try singles in standard J positions! And the Vintage ones are killer too!

gotta try the vintage ones soon..... :hyper:

Silly Americans; Thanksgiving is in October.

:hiding:

Happy belated T-day to all (USA AND Canadians!)

We switched Thursday with Wednesday in Canada.

Which would make Chef's new bass arrive in mid-June.

LOL!

Last June. I think it's late...

...it was shipped UPS.....what do you expect???

I did, and it's not. I liked the Bart's better actually, but neither fit my toolbox

bummer man...real bummer...I really thought you would like it....

I suppose I'll try some other stuff. It just seems to be in my nature.
But, through the last few years of "Gear Churn," I've really been able to focus in on what works for me, and "helps make me sound like me."

It's gone from "fun" to "man, why do I keep doing this when I know what I like."

I'm sure there will still be some science experiments, but I'm feeling pretty settled at the moment.

I'm transitioning from "that guy who had 35 basses and 18 amps" to a guy who has two amps, and 5-6 basses, several of which I know are redundant, but I like them anyway. Just because.

I know what you mean.....for me, I used to REALLY like going to Sam Ash and GC just to play some basses and have fun but I learned that whenever I went there I was just dissapointed because I had MUCH better basses at home....

I try to stay away from redundancy BUT I make a few exceptions....

That's why I traded that bass off, I prefer the Barts on the 55-xx series. I like the Barts and Lh3 on the 34" stuff, but I could hear a tonal difference between the 34" and 35" scales that I did not care for. It's a sweet bass, but I just preferred the 44-xx's.

you can???? really? I cannot tell a difference....the only difference I feel is slighly more tenison on the longer strings...and then only a SLIGHT difference...this does not change the sound IMHO...unless it is in teh way i attack the string...

Bummer. I know you're into the Sadowsky thing, which is of course a mighty fine choice. I always read that one must hear a Sad in the mix to get it, I would humbly suggest the LH-3 ought to get the same shot.

good suggestion Greg!!!

Cool! The NC build sounds great...Look forward to seeing it.
Be sure to share pics.

I agree...need pics!!!

I know, but I need to wait until all the "dust settles" for end of year fourth quarter stuff.

Also, I still have three others that need to land before I can even think about the last spot on the rack :D Although a US HB, is up there on the list of considerations.

Just looked at the count and realized we're 70 away from getting our senior discount at Denny's :) LOG#60

I got us MUCH closer Brian!!! much closer!!! :D

Just doing my job!

well once that 4th qtr dust settles I would make the call and pull the trigger on a stealthy US HB if I were in your shoes. :)

I am trying to talk myself into ( OR out off????) rolling two more basses and buying that US Olympic white US HB w/ Chisonics at BC.
THAT is another bass I have been drooling over for about a year now.

oooooo...buying spree????? nice to see you helping spark the economy!

Hi guys, I finally decided against a black pickguard on my ice blue 44-94. So for anyone interested and for a small price; I have an unused Jeannie's b/w/b 44-94 guard for sale, still has the plastic on it. PM me if interested.

4494-3.gif

PS I hope the mods don't mind me putting this up in this thread.

GREAT decision!

put it on the LOG as well....

Well I gigged my 55-02 last night and I just love the tone out of it! It plays great too.

Tat came by the gig since it was in her neck of the woods and brought her sweet Amber 44-02 plus her HB. Those are a couple of beautiful basses! It was a real pleasure meeting Tat and hanging out with her for the evening!

Just an all around Great Evening!

Sounds like a fun night!!! Tat is a hoot!

Something is missing here

I'm predicting an imminent Doude wave :ninja:

well...it is over now...for now....

been a couple of weeks of non-stop working/teaching/working...pretty much every day...

it all starts again tomorrow...3 weeks of travel so I MAY be limited to access again...stay tuned for mroe Doudage!!!

unitl then...peace to all of my LOG Brothern and Sisters (I figured "Sistern" did not sound tight!)

sigining off for now....

peace:

Doude

uh oh!!! he used my full rightful name... He MUST be mad....:smug:

I am full of muchness....and other things

Doude, google "You've lost your muchness" ;)

On another note: I was just discussing the incoming with the wife and she asked how much one of them was. I told her and then she asked "and how much was the new refrigerator?" Then she just shook her head and laughed a little :D

There is a slight timbre difference, hard to notice but it's there. I notice stuff like this, not sure why, guess thats why I do quality for a living.

Anyone run their hollowbodies with round wound strings? Thinking of giving that a whirl :)

Yep...I ditched the flats that were on my HB when I bought it and tried a few round sets on it.
Settled on DR Low Rider Nickles.
I get great tonal range from them on it.
But my HB is loaded with 2 Dkstars....so it will be different than HB's with Chi's or Barts.

Touche.......but YOU get to enjoy the fridge as well....

On the other hand she gets to look at and enjoy the sound of the new bass so it is a win-win

Will google it.....sheesh....i must be getting old!

Btw....at denver airport between delayed flights....and i have a 3 and a half hour drive when i get to my destination....

Gunna be ANOTHER looooong day!

I guess....i guess i have lost a bit of hearing over the years....mostly due to my job.....that is my excuse and i am sticking to it......

My hearing has ALWAYS been a little bit muffled....but seems to be getting worse over time :(
