I have narrowed down from 16 killer basses to now 8 after this new 44-94 shows up late in the week.
50% cut in excessive fat? Not bad.

Well I went from six down to three this year, but three are on the way The big difference is that I have narrowed down my selection to two brands, they just work for me. I really don't have the urge to try any others at the moment, maybe one made by that guy in Seattle, but it would just duplicate what I already have or is coming in.

More likely than not, I may experiment with pickups and pre's more than flipping whole basses, once I'm good with the wood, fit and finish; it's time to get dirty and mess with the guts.

Bummer. I know you're into the Sadowsky thing, which is of course a mighty fine choice. I always read that one must hear a Sad in the mix to get it, I would humbly suggest the LH-3 ought to get the same shot.

I played one of those birds once. Very sweet. But I have one being built for me in North Carolina that I think is going to end up somewhere in my top 5 players list.

well once that 4th qtr dust settles I would make the call and pull the trigger on a stealthy US HB if I were in your shoes.

I am trying to talk myself into ( OR out off????) rolling two more basses and buying that US Olympic white US HB w/ Chisonics at BC.
THAT is another bass I have been drooling over for about a year now.

Well I gigged my 55-02 last night and I just love the tone out of it! It plays great too.

Tat came by the gig since it was in her neck of the woods and brought her sweet Amber 44-02 plus her HB. Those are a couple of beautiful basses! It was a real pleasure meeting Tat and hanging out with her for the evening!

Looks like I have ALOT to catch up on so....let teh wave begin!!!!

The DJ5 came in yesterday. It is absolutely spotless. Fit and finish are indeed on par with USA Fender models, and in some cases, maybe even better. I love my Fenders so this pains me to say so.

I sat down to noodle last night when I should have been doing my homework for rehearsal. Not sure what happened but two and half hours later, I finally took the headphones off.

Haven't spent any time on a 5 banger in years with the exception of playing one for a song here and there. The neck was amazing and in no way cumbersome.

While I haven't played at serious volume yet, the Fralins installed by the PO have thus far left me breathless. I don't have anything to compare them to other than stock and Fender Custom Shops, but wow.

Should be a fun night tonight at practice. Anyone want some over/under action on how many times I yank on the B thinking I am grabbing a handful of E?

congrats!!! glad you like it....2.5 hours huh? time flys when you play Lakies!!!

as for grabbing the B when going for an E? I did that for a while and then cured my problem....I got rid of all my 4 bangers...and got used to the visual cues of a fiver....

Lakland HB's are amazing basses.
I would love to add 2 more to my line up.
I have a USA HB loaded with darkstars now.
But would love to grab an HB with barts and an HB with chisonic humbuckers. TRIPLETS!!

You should buy it...
If you decide to roll it later on, the CAR color HB's are real lookers and are an easy and quick sell on here.

found a used USA HB and thought it prudent to post it here...and lo! Everybody is on the topic of HBs!!

It's inca silver with barts.

And yes...I prefer rounds, too. d'addario half rounds are cool, as well. My HB has barts.

huh? $1,899 with free shipping and hard case is a pretty good price on that inca HB. I really would love to have 3 US HB's. I think having one with Dstars...one with barts and one with Chi's would be amazing.
Sure they would all have their own personality, meriting having them.

Not sure about the bass and treble frequencies. There's a trim for the output level of the pre on the board too. It's a little Philips head.

I had a bart loaded one long ago, which was kinda "too smooth jazz" for me.
I've heard the LH loaded ones are more aggressive; if not, it'll be a quick catch and release.

I guarantee less "smooth jazz" and more aggressive...if I am not telling the truth, send it to me!

Oh I agree. I got to play the DJ5 at volume last night and it was so sweet that every time I hit a note, I had no desire to move to the next note as the one I was playing was perfect !

We all get nervous every time that we see a FS/FT and someone says it has the best tone that they have ever heard.
I always ask myself, "if it's the best tone ever, how could they possibly be selling it?"

In my case, the guy just preferred another color. And I thanked him again for it this morning!

yup...the notes sound GREAT on a Lakie....I hit a Low B today at the end of the closing praise and it rang for a VERY long time!!!! I just sat there and let it go...one of our guitarists and our leader both commented about how long it rang! they were impressed with the sustain...AND the string was top loaded NOT through the body!!! I wonder how much longer it would have gone if it had been through the body!

I only hang the bass like that in really rowdy bars. It gives the drunks something to aim for when they are throwing things. If you give them something to aim at, they never, EVER hit it. Surely you know this.

That's a Kilo head (45 pounds) on that strap. It was taken in my LR. I was so stressed out trying to get the shot. When I finally got one I liked, I cradled the HB gently while lying on the floor and wept softly. I have promised to never to put it in harm's way again.

I brought my 55-02 to pratice tonight. I love the way that thing cuts through the mix. More like punches through the mix. Halfway through the night, my guitarist looks at me and says "man that bass sounds great!"

now THAT is a compliment!!! To get a guitarist to recognize a bass is something!!! they are usually so tied up in their own stuff.....usually...

I love my 5502 with the LH3 pre & pickups, best sounding bass I have ever played. Never fails to get compliments from the sound men.

LH3 with the Lakland USA/Hanson pups. The current config they come with. After playing some at BassCentral a few months ago the 2 things that were must have for me was a maple board and the Hanson guts. I have always been a rosewood board guy, but I really liked the "snap" I got from the maple on these more than the "mellower" rosewood.

They both obviously sound great, just wanted the brighter maple board. My brother in law came with me to BassCentral to check these out. A week earlier he had ordered a new Jazz deluxe. He cancelled the Jazz and ordered a Black and Maple from BC. It is his main bass now and he has a Streamer Stage II 5 that he bought new years ago. The Lakland put it on the stand.

Had a chance to play Zoomies Lakland Hollowbody at an outdoor gig in Texas on Friday...the bass has Barts and LaBella flats...really interesting hybrid sound for the country gig I was doing...it had an acoustic quality to it I've never heard from a hollowbody...really interesting bass and plays very well

interesting sounding basses for sure....on my bucket list...if ONLY they made a fiver!!!!! argh!!!

Not a Lakland related post but as a proud Lakland owner, I feel this is an appropriate place to share this.

I had my final recital on Friday for my Postgraduate Diploma in jazz on the bass. It went really well, and got awesome feedback from friends and family. It has been a long journey

Just thought I'd share this with my Lakland brethren... this was from a show on Halloween and we played one of my original compositions we hadn't hit in over 2 years. Anyway, this was the first recording with my new setup using, as the title indicates, my Tone Hammer, ValveDrive, and Compressore... all summed up into a Radial J48 before it hit the board/front of house. The 44-01 continues to be a powerhouse of a bass... very underrated in its 'non-modded' form.

I gotta say... this recorded tone is thick, punchy, and about as 'perfect' as I could ask to have with no extra work. Definitely the best recorded tone I've gotten in a long time... very happy with the combination of all the above units.

The music is sort of a Flecktones-vibe with some other inflections. Hope you dig it. There are some other recordings on the band's SoundCloud account too... check them out if you'd like.

That being said, a very famous bluegrass singer and huge country writer in Nashville named Ronnie Bowman came up to me after soundcheck to tell me how much he hates electric bass in country and how much he loved the tone of the Lakland...he said it had a certain 'something' that reminded him of upright bass. I took his point. When I used the front pickup and played with the side of my thumb it was huge and thumpy, but stayed out of the guitars way. When I switched to a pick (front pickup) it has a real nice old school tone with a little extra definition...switched to the back pickup for more of a modern (ish) rock tone.

I'd like to take a couple more laps around the track with this bass, but so far, so good

I have heard of him...and to get such a compliment from such an experienced musician really means something! I am sure it was a compbo of the bass and your playing!!!

With all this HB talk of late, I'm beginning to think about adding one to the stable, but have some reservations about the body shape and comfort - one of the reasons I never went for a decade.

I don't sling low and have impingement syndrome in my right shoulder so I'm thinking that the depth of the body may be an issue.

No issues Brian...these are VERY comfy to play....more comfy than the competiiton for sure...

Thanks Dan, that's what I thought. And the rounded corners seem like it would make it a little more comfortable than a Gibson or Gretsch.

But I agree that a stealth hollowbody would look AMAZING. Do it. Wear it, a sharp suit, and sunglasses, and ladies will remove their clothing for you - on command.

In other news, I've decided that it's impossible to make a Darryl Jones sound bad. I just played along to a Queen + Paul Rodgers live concert, with a signal chain consisting of the Darryl Jones (with almost completely dead steel roundwounds) into a crappy-wappy almost totally broken 10-watt Kustom practice amp, into a set of lower-mid-priced Sennheiser headphones. And it sounded immense.

I don't understand how Lakland do it. I just don't. But I love them for it!
