Back with a 9 lb. Black 'n Maple DJ5. Previous owner put a side jack rout in it, so maybe that lightened it a hair. :)

planning to demo/pickup a local 5501 spalt this afternoon. That'll give me a 44-02 and a 55-01... skyline works for me!! (still should have never sold my skyline hb)

QUESTION - I think I saw Markus comment on a different thread something about new chisonic pups that sound "darkstar"-ish? Does Hansen make that pup in the 5501 pickup size? (bart p2 right?)

I'll give it a run stock first, but based on reading the comments in this (and other) threads, I think I'm gonna want a little more BITE/BARK/Etc.

Thanks! I'll post pics this afternoon if I get it after I demo it!

The New Vintage Chisonics need to be in the larger housing because the magnets are bigger...nit sure they plane to put the Vintage style ones in the 5501 pickups..or if they will even fit.

So I got my 2007 44-02 I won on ebay for $660 on Wednesday. It's got some scratches in the finish which is why it was so cheap. I pulled it out of the box and it sounded great through my amp but it was damn near unplayable, buzzed all over. Dropped it off at the shop for setup that day and just got it back today.

They told me when I dropped it off that the neck relief looked way off. They couldn't get the setup right so the tech finally just pulled the neck off and found tbe problem. Apparently some of the poly finish had dripped down into the neck pocket at the factory and because of that the neck wasn't sitting flat in the pocket. He sanded it down and then dropped a small shim in, put it all back together and it finally took a good setup. The action kind of feels a little higher than I'd like but it's probably just in my head, I can just barely squeeze a credit card under the E at the 1st fret. I played it for about and hour and LOVE the sound tbrough my Ampeg B112, the neck feels great too. Pretty happy with my purchase, It's like having 3 basses in 1, so far my favorite sound is front coil on the rear pickup blended even with the front pickup with highs and mids boosted just a tad. So many options!

Congrats ...glad you like it.....they are very versatile basses!

Glad you finally got the bass set up well....

Have any of you guys noticed that the Skyline quality has degraded over time? It seems the more of these basses that I pickup in stores the more I notice issues, such as very rough pickup routes, poorly fitting neck/pocket assembly, and the worst of all is that the necks are not properly aligned such that the strings gravitate toward one edge of the fretboard near the heel (the treble side typically it seems). The last issue mentioned I'm seeing on a 55-02 that is otherwise perfect, but the strings drift by about 2mm at the 22nd fret, putting them right on the edge of the fretboard such that they roll right off if you aren't careful. This just isn't acceptable for a bass with a MAP of over $1400.

There was a time where this was an issue.... they found an issue with bridge and neck alignment.

I was told the issue was identified and fixed.

Maybe the bass you looked at was from one of those batches.

Lakland will fix any issues.....
