I'm thinking maybe it needs a black pickguard to finish it off, or possibly tort. I've checked out some pics of maple necked precisions and a black pickguard seems to work well visually.

Anyone else see it the way I'm seeing it ? Got any other suggestions ?

Or am I being very, very, picky ?

A white guard would look really good.
However, I think that bass needs to be refinned to natural and get a black pick guard. That. Would. Be. Epic.

Never heard of a 55-02 (Skyline) having birdseye fretboards... doesn't happen. That's either a US Lakland or some kind of hybrid. If it's a US, I'd snatch that up!

In my opinion, a lot. Preamp is a lot smoother and more musical and the pickups are really clear, articulate and smooth sounding. The MK1's weren't bad with the new preamp. The MK1 preamp is the real weak spot! I found it cheap and harsh sounding with way too much boost in the bass and highs. Having said that, I may have left it alone if it didn't crap out on me.

The only real issue is some tarnish on the tuning keys. The volume pot is a little scratchy but that should be easy to fix.

sweet looking bass!

Lakland can supply replacement tuning keys (if needed) and some useage of the voulme pot migh get rid of the scratching...if not, ask carl ([email protected]) if he cannot fix it...fuggetaboutit!

like that MUCH more with the guard!

maybe a guard would put a nice separation between the 3TB and the neck....the coloring and grain is nice...leave it and put a guard on it.

It may give you an idea of how much difference a pickguard can make. His turned out rather fetching.

I'm in the process of a refin and I'm adding a pickguard on a bass that didn't have one originally. Makes a world of difference.

Whatever you do you may want to consider different knobs. Black or chrome metal knobs would probably affect the appearance more dramatically than you might think.
