I had a pretty interesting day Saturday. The "should've been a 40 minute drive" that took 90 minutes thanks to traffic (perhaps caused by the Chicago Blues Fest) was ultimately worth it for several reasons.

Here's one:

That's me with the first Lakland bass ever made (SN# X1) which was pretty mojo-riffic. Also a couple of other pieces of Lakland history from Dan Lakin's personal collection, including a dual Darkstar Decade that sounded monstrous.

I'll post some other details from my visit in a different thread.

I must admit, it brought out the the silly little girl in me.

(Speaking of Knoxville (?!), the Holy Shiitake t-shirt I'm wearing in that pic came from the Mellow Mushroom in your neck of the woods. I love that part of Tennessee. (For that matter, my mom's side of the family is from Happy Valley, about an hour south of Knoxville.))

Yeah, I'm pretty fond of east TN! The hottest part of summer can be miserable, but we have lakes to cool off in :D.

I'd really like for my next bass to be Decade outfitted with a 1.625 width neck. Is the possibility of swapping a Decade neck for one from a 44-01/2 an option? Only reason I could consider it not working is the neck pocket in the body being too shallow.

In my quest for the right 5 string, I am considering ordering a 55-94. So, I come to you at Lakland-a-hokics Anonymous for support.

My name is Clay and I have a wicked bass addiction. I've been addicted for 25 years...

If I order a 55-94, would I be able to specify that I want a 5A quilt top or specific top in a specific color or burst and that I want a bird eye fretboard with lots of eyes? Also, who is the best to order through? Bass Central, Bass Club Chicago? I just want to make sure that for the money, I get exactly what I want.

That is absolutely not what I wanted to hear! But I'd be lying if I said I didn't see it coming :smug:

Looks like I'll have to get my hands on one and see if I can get down with the jazz style neck, or start searching for a skyline Scheff model. That would work too...:bassist:
