String question re: 44-60 LE Chi-Sonic. Figured I'd get a more specific response here than in Strings. I set it up with TI flats because I hate clank and zing. Sounds a bit thin. On Jason's rec, I just put GHS Pressurewounds on another jazz and they sound nice and full. Try those, or maybe Groundwounds? Also I have TI rounds on a jazz. Pricey, sound good, tiny little gauges. Others?
I just put GHS Pressurewounds on my DJ4 and love them. No clicky clacky, no zing, but still has a presence and fullness that work for me on a Jazz type and I'll stick to flats on the Hollowbody. I think I'll be using them instead of rounds from here on in.
I used to use groundwounds on a fretless and liked them. Helped get some mids without tearing up the fingerboard. They'd probably work fine. If you try those, do let us know!
I find the Chis to be a little more modern and "fatter" sounding that a traditional single coil J pickup, so the fact that they sound thin is a bit confusing to me. I am not a flatwounds guy at all, and I would say that (in my opinion) chis are probably not the right pickups for flatwound strings just based on how aggressive they can be. I have been vacillating between nickel and steel rounds with the 2 JO CS I have and have noticed a marketable difference in the way they respond to "brighter" strings. So, I guess my opinion is that if you are going to use flats, you should try to find brighter, more defined flats. Someone that actually plays flats might be able to tell you what those are...
LEM--your points are well taken. I was surprised too. Personally, I use more flats than rounds. Easy on the fingers and frets, plus lots of smooth bottom on a P and sometimes on a J. As flats go, TIs are low tension and tend to be brighter than most. That's why I sought counsel on this. It's counterintuitive.

I'm thinking flats...and what pickguard color? Tort? If I go rounds...should I go steel or nickel. What about strap locks...Dunlops? Also...what is the best dirt pedal for pokers?

Pickguard=Metal Diamond plate
Strings=Cobalt, only because Co-60 can be used in a nuclear warhead which makes it ultra cool for metal!
Straplock=no, just directly attach a chain to the Limited Edition Lakland Poker Bassface Bass.
Best Dirt Pedal=not needed, this thing is so "metal" that it's pure essence is dirt ore.
This is so Metal that only Chuck Norris can touch it or hear it. Everyone one else would immediately submit to the brown note that this produces.
