Hi..
a little help needed here,
I got a chance to buy a used 44-60 skyline for a great price and mint condition, in comparison with fe**r deluxe MIM:hiding:
in confusion here is not about the price, not about the sound, although a bit confuse is Lakland sound always...well..Lakland:bassist:, and still, I always have internal preamp on all of my bass..:help:

What most confuse me are the looks
Lakland comes with good ol' boring black rosewood and white/parchment pickguard
and the other (fe**r that is) comes with this gorgeous tortoise pickguard,
I always love tortoise, so, If I could just swap the white pickguard..that would be great.

I know this is sound silly and shallow, but I think this 44-60 just too modest appearance that bug me, so, If you guys happened to have 44-60 (black-rosewood-tortoise) please post a pic, I know in my heart I would love it and set for Lakland instead of the other brand...;) I already google it, and I don't find any of them.

Help is always appreciated...Thank You.

PS. are usual fe**r tort pickguard will fit on 44-60?

Black/tort/RW is always gorgeous IMO.

It would be an ugly fit at best. Neck heel dimensions are different and who knows how it would line up with the contours and the control plate.

Jeannie's makes pickguards, and you can probably get one direct from Lakland. Give em a call.

the 44-64 not being a jazz bass does not mean you don't get to look so cool with it sometimes:

Never says that 44-64 is not cool, but the currently bargain price is 44-60 (my friend offer me ~$650 in my currency, hope it's bargain enough, it's dead mint). Be patient, 44-64 is next...mwahahaha.., my future 44-64 will be modest sunburst, although I like 44-51 more..:)

Anyway, this is my first Lakland, 55-02 standard, that I modded a bit, change the bridge saddle to brass that has center groove to compensate the infamous off-center string alignment.
I change the knob to chrome to make it more "exist".

That is a great price....and a pick guard switch is not too expensive and is an easy fix.

I have a 55-02 Deluxe "Out for Delivery" on the brown truck today. I am very excited for my first Lakland. I worked a trade for my Stingray 5 with another TBer.

I'm sure I'll have questions as I have been a lurker around the Lakland threads for some time.

Sounds like a good deal, and I (along with just about anyone else in this thread!) would say go for the Lakland over the Fender!

Pickguard swap is a great idea and if it gets that bass closer to the ideal one in your imagination, it is not silly or shallow at all!

As an alternative pickguard source to Jeannie's mentioned above, you might want to take a look at http://www.quickguards.com/ and ask Mike Quick (the owner) if he has the template for that model. He probably does but if not, will make it very easy for you to create one he can use. (In my personal experience, Mike Quick is much more helpful and friendly than Roger at Jeannie's.)

I like when people come to the Lakland thread and ask if Laklands are better than Fenders... That's like going into a Red Sox bar and asking who people are rooting for... Yankees or Red Sox.

Also... +1 for Mike Quick, he has done all my Lakland guards at this point. Nice guy, and great products.

I'm old enough to be an Expos fan. My uncle moved from NY to Montreal in the 50s, when the Montreal Royals were the farm team for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He played on the same AAA team with Jackie Robinson.......but my uncle couldn't hit:p. He married a local girl and eventually brought his whole family to Canada.


Derail over....back to our regularly scheduled Lakland reality/fantasy programming.
