Thanks, I had emailed several different shops and no one had the basses that were on their website. I was originally wanting a rosewood fretboard, but when I responded to Perry at Bass Central that the pic of the original bass he sent did not "wow" me, he said that if I don't mind a maple fretboard, that he has my bass because he said "wow" when he saw it. When he sent me that pic, "wow" was not what I said. I said "HOLY SHITAKE MUSHROOM!!!!", well not that, but you get the idea...I wonder what this would look like if I sent it to Pat Wilkins to have the Mai Thai burst put on it?

ooohh... This top IS pretty dang special, figuring out the perfect finish to compliment it is a great idea to explore!

GREAT sound to your band (I am talking band etc NOT mix....that cold have been better)...and the Fender is a nice looking one so that is OK....

I can't remember the last time I posted in this thread, but I was playing my 55-94 this morning and it reminded my why I bought it in the first place...BEST BASS EVER!

Anyone have any advice on finding a stacked VT/VT plate for a Skyline JO? Checked with Leo, but apparently they won't sell one unless it's on a US model (or I'm not as cool as I used to be, lol). Does a standard Fender one work?

Thanks! As I was looking at it last night I really feel like it needs a matching headstock. Anyone had just a head stock finished on a Lakland? Is it possible to color match if done that way?

Chicago-land Laklanders....

Who is better to deal with, Bass Club Chicago or Rock-n-Roll Vintage. They both have a Lakland that I want, but I know nothing about either place. I want to jockey for the best price and best customer service. I hate dealing with scummy/shady shops.

And I wish that I could make it mine... unfortunately that would mean parting ways with my Seafoam Green one, which is probably my favorite color...

I have had nothing but good experiences buying from Mark and Jody at Bass Club. I have zero experience with the other.

Mark is a GREAT guy for sure....

I order this from Bass Central yesterday...the painful wait begins...

Don't worry, Seafoam is not going anywhere. I actually wish all my basses were that color... and the neck is perfect. I was just saying that if I had infinite dollars I would like a PJ with a Jazz taper.

OK...cleared up....as for a headstock refin...seriously - contact Pat Wilkins...he painted that bass and will be able to match the color no sweat...

Lakland are the best feeling basses on the market IMO. I played and F Bass a while back and while it was a stunning bass, it could not hold a candle to a Lakland. Since I've switched to playing Lakland exclusively (up to 5 Lakies now) the only bass that compares, again IMO, has been an Elrick.

I think that you will love that 55-94.

lol. All of us on this forum know exactly how good Lakland bases are. If we don't ask him sensible questions, then all were going to sound like is a bunch of raging fanboys. I'm sure that any one of the experience Lakland users here could persuade the OP of what it is about Lakland that is just so good. Although I'm quite certain Marcus has a nice fire poker he could offer him in trade.

Thank you guys! Here is my story.

I have owned several good basses: Fodera, Smith, Fender CS, Sadowsky, etc. And the best one I'd say is the Fbass VF6 (the fretted one). I always was looking for vintage tones of single coils, and the VF6 have it.

Regarding the Fbass fretless. I feel a little bit lost with the unmarked fingerboard, and it doesn't sound so good as the VF. It's an expensive bass (more expensive than the Lakland) but it's pretty difficult to sell it. So may be it's a good idea to accept the trade offer for the Lakland.

The only thing I think I will dislike from Lakland is its modern tone. I don't really like Music Man's sound, and Laklands 55-94 have exactly that tone on bridge pickup, unless I use it in single coil mode…

Nice, I hadn't seen a spalted one with a maple board. Congrats!
I think it is really hard to refinish these. The top is super thin, it would probably be gone by scraping off the glossy finish. But then again, I am no expert.
Let me know when you get tired of 5 strings again...
