Nice, I hadn't seen a spalted one with a maple board. Congrats!
I think it is really hard to refinish these. The top is super thin, it would probably be gone by scraping off the glossy finish. But then again, I am no expert.
Let me know when you get tired of 5 strings again... :)

Even if I do this is a keeper just for the top. Like my 44-02D's, this one has that "WOW" factor.

Hi guys!

One bass player is offering me his Lakland Deluxe 55-94 as a trade for my Fbass BNF6 fretless. Both basses are in new condition. I know they are completely different beasts, but I would like to know your thoughts about it.

Here are some pics:

I would do that trade in a heartbeat! Sweet 55-94 there, for sure!

I wanted rosewood fb to begin with, but could not pass this up. All my others are rosewood.

At this rate, when I find "the one," I'm going to try not to be picky about the fretboard. These basses look gorgeous either way. Its all about finding the right top with these guys. And you have definitely found "the one," in my opinion...

I feel the same. I looked at 15+ basses from 5 different shops and in all of the communication the only shop that really tried to make the sale was Bass Central. In every email after I said that the bass show didn't wow me, Perry at BC said if you don't mind maple that he has my bass.

I'm critical about the tops on my basses. They have to be unique for me. I try to take my to time and pounce when I find the right one.

She needs to move! Can't see the hotness with her in the way!

Haha!! But, what's up with that? Looks like a skyline Duck Dunn but..non matching headstock ... That throws me off. The PG also looks swapped.

That being said, I mentioned it on the LOG forum ... But the look of ultralite tuners just doesn't compare to the HB1 that the us models come with. The ultralites are tiny and sit so dang close to the headstock! Gives skylines a MIM fender look, IMO.

Looks like there's a J pup under his picking hand too. Looks like a mod'd CAR Glaub or Dunn w/ a Sky JO limited run neck. And, I'm no fan of the look of the Skyline's tuners either.

lol. All of us on this forum know exactly how good Lakland bases are. If we don't ask him sensible questions, then all were going to sound like is a bunch of raging fanboys. I'm sure that any one of the experience Lakland users here could persuade the OP of what it is about Lakland that is just so good. Although I'm quite certain Marcus has a nice fire poker he could offer him in trade.

OK...OK.....nice "cover"....:):ninja:

Thank you guys! Here is my story.

I have owned several good basses: Fodera, Smith, Fender CS, Sadowsky, etc. And the best one I'd say is the Fbass VF6 (the fretted one). I always was looking for vintage tones of single coils, and the VF6 have it.

Regarding the Fbass fretless. I feel a little bit lost with the unmarked fingerboard, and it doesn't sound so good as the VF. It's an expensive bass (more expensive than the Lakland) but it's pretty difficult to sell it. So may be it's a good idea to accept the trade offer for the Lakland.

The only thing I think I will dislike from Lakland is its modern tone. I don't really like Music Man's sound, and Laklands 55-94 have exactly that tone on bridge pickup, unless I use it in single coil mode…

Hope you can get my point :)

"not exact".....I think you will get used to it...

maybe an issue...I just would hate to cover that top AT ALL!

Well, contacted Marty and he's bending over backwards to make it right! Told you he's awesome. He's paying for everything including shipping and the decal, I didn't even ask...he offered.

I drew placement lines for him. This also means that he'll have a template, fellow Lak-ites! Any matching headstock he does from now on will be placed correctly.

Bob "The Body" Ventura and I wait for the neck to return all perfect and clean!

(Minnesota nod to an ex governor that was... A professional wrestler... Sigh... )

this one was WORTHY of the hunt....for sure!

I find it a little scary that I saw these pictures of Selena Gomez, including one I won't post here where her skirt comes open, and I still noticed the Lakland in the background.....

Skyline? Maybe....I guess he is a "Disney musician" and not making the cash for a US Lakie....
