Question for the group, do any other players of the 55-60s find them to be inherently "dark"?

The bass is very "low end" prominent. I get no treble sparkle out of it.Mark:
Mine is not "dark"....neither was the Dual J I had (both with Hanson standard J pickups).
can you elaborate?
GREAT looking Bass BTW...

I'll pop the control plate and see what's up. Maybe it's something obvious. Just wanted to check and see if that was "just the way" these basses were.hmm....maybe your tone control is not working properly?
I get sparkle out of my Hanson pickups....the vintage pickups a bit "less" but still there...
weird for sure....I would contact [email protected] to see what he thinks...

Thanks, I think it's a looker too! Want to get a red tort pick guard for it.
Yup! That's what I want!! Where can I get one?agreed:
sorry for the bad pics:
Here is "woody"....supposed to be a "temporary bass" until I got my JO5CS....but I fell in love...it plays so well...especially as a fretless!

Ya I dig the black. Changes the look completely!
I kind of felt the same way about my US 44-60. The Hanson pickups sounded heavy and thick in the low-mids, without a whole lot of shine. I'm swapping them out for a set of Aero pickups and .022 tone caps to see if that creates a clearer, more balanced tone. Ash/Maple FWIW. I like woody, open, airy, aggressive in my J. But different people like different things. They weren't bad, just not my cup'o'tea. It still plays and feels so beautiful![]()

It's the rosewood board. I'll go hide now... but seriously, it's something I've heard with my own ears for years now.
So.... swap necks from your P to your J and see if I'm right.
