IMHO the vintage has on sounds like a nice old fralin .....very old school...

Thanks ... missed that one. I just found Invalid Link Removed on the Lakland site (lakie neopunch, lakie vintage, nordstrand) ... but they all sound pretty close to my ears.

Is that just me or do this differences really only really come out when you're in front of an amp ?

New to this club...only one Lakland right now but that will hopefully soon change....I play this bass lately more than my Warwick streamers, great bass... ImageUploadedByTalkBass1389297568.366405.jpg

Welcome to the club! I've got a red AJ that I swapped a maple neck from a 55-02 with and loaded with Aguilar OBP3 preamp. Love it, as I'm sure you'll keep loving yours! What kind of gigs are you using your AJ on?

Give me a rundown of your opinion of the 55-AJ's tone. What amps and cabs are you using? What kind of music are you playing with it? Very curious About this bass and I'm hesitant to buy one before trying.

Hey LOGgers, desperate times call for desperate measures.

I'm about to begin my last semester of college as a business major with marketing focus. I need an internship for this final semester to graduate, I had one lined up but it was taken away essentially at the last minute. Now I have a week to find a new one before the semester starts. Lucky me!

So I figure why not use all my resources? Any LOG brothers able to hook up a business related internship in the southern NH or northern MA area?

55-AJ...

I love this thing. Being a bigger dude the 35 inch scale and wider string spacing are perfect for me. Tone wise it's very versatile, room filling voice with a tight low b. I've been using DR hi beams for the piano tone and actually had to dial it back a bit to avoid to much crunch, so switching to the low rider nickels to get more warmth but I love it. I have a streamer 1 and 2, and this gets more play time. So far the loaded Bartolini mk-1 pre amp suits fine. I play mostly through a mark bass 2x10 combo with an occasional 15 mated to it, and sometimes through my Ampeg SVT classic and 4x10 cab. Never disappoints even with stone dead strings.
