I thought Texan just installed a set of CS jazz pups in his 44-60, but I could be mistaken. I know he said it was a very tight fit on the bridge pup. As for aesthetics, that's up to you.

chi-sonics don't sound vintage at all, to me...so I don't know what you're referring to there. the chis should sound the same (or very very close) regardless of what casing they are in.
the Aguilar 60s are vintage sounding, but with more output than say a Hanson vintage or Fralin. I love them in my Spector JJ.
This is what I wrote about the CS4's when I got them...
"When the neck pup is solo'd, it's like a P pickup on steroids, thick, throaty, and just made you want to scream "HELL YES!!!". The Bridge solo'd is nice, quacky and warm, very Jaco. Together, they are thick on the lows, the mids are even, not scooped, but even and not over powering, the highs are warm yet crisp. They have a vintage feel, with a modern zing."
I've had them for just over one month and played them side by side with my PBass, 55-02 with Barts and 55-01 with US Bart setup and yes the Honeymoon period is over.
However, I still love the sound of the CS4's. It is exactly what I want from a Jazz bass. They are very responsive to your attack. You can play lightly and hide in the mix and gradually increase your attack and cut through very nicely and start really digging in and get a throaty growl that will sterilize young men and small woodland animals.
They sound full and round and warm. They are KILLER for slap. I did a gig recently where we play everything from Brickhouse to Stinkfist in one particular set and used only my Jazz with CS4's and it handled everything like a champ.
FWIW, I'm using a Genz Streamliner 900, Genz Shuttlemax 9.2, Bergantino AE410 and AE212. Pick a combination and the CS4's will make you smile.
The bridge fit was a bit tight, but I have copper tape shielding the cavity. Note that I did not have to remove any shielding for the pup to fit, but the gap was very small.
I don't think that it will kill the look of your bass.

guys, i have never held or even seen a Lakland bass but this new Geezer model has me interested. what is it about these basses that make them worth their asking price? i've owned several new fender basses, a few new ricks, new gibson. why do these guys cost so much for the USA models?
What can I say, Guitars and Basses are my passion. If I can help someone be happier with what they have or help them obtain great gear, I'm there. It's the only thing that I miss about working for the Evil Empire.
Lakland knows that a good neck makes a good bass. The necks are like nothing I've ever played before...and I've played plenty. The only other neck I like about as much as my Laklands is my Fender CS Pino.

+1 about Lakland necks! For years of buying and selling basses, I would look for this tone or that tone, thinking that it was really the tone of an instrument that didn't sell me on a particular instrument.

The neck is perfect. Not sticky. Fast feeling. Not too fat in my hand. The cliché of it becoming an extension of me was absolutely true. Despite loving the Talkbass community and having been blessed to play all kinds of amazing instruments, when I became sold on Lakland was when I no longer had to think about my instrument and I could just play. My concern for tone (while Lakland is no hack!) went away when I immediately felt at home, moreso than on any other instrument ever. That being said, one or two more never hurts ;-)

thanks. for the nordy, you say more modern sounding. i typically associate modern with being scooped. are the nordys at all scooped?
no, I would not say scooped. When I say modern, I guess I mean more of everything, more meat, more sizzle, not less of anything.
Now this is not a plug for my current for-sale listing (honest) but do a search for Lakland Skyline 5501 in the classifieds, I have some sound clips up there of a nordy equipped 5501, and listen for yourself.

I usually associate scooped with more vintage sounding pups. Modern I equate with HiFi, which is everything, all the time.
just listened with headphones. i hear a lot of lowen and highs but the mid character i like is not there. not at all a knock on you or the pickups, it's just not the tone i prefer.
That's very strange, because when I listen through my IEM's I get a a really balanced bass sound, with maybe even a nod towards being mid-forward
funny how they can mean different things to different people. vintage to me, usually means less lows and more mids with a bit muted highs. modern and hi-fi i hear differently. modern to me is scooped, while hi-fi to me means super clean and even (like an alembic).
perhaps it's our different interpretations of mids. i mean, there's low-mids, mid-mids and high-mids. not sure which are the mids i prefer, but i know it when i hear it.
He plays a lot of the 50/50 demo with the B- string...maybe that's what your interpreting as being lowend heavy? I actually think his "favorite" setting is a pretty balanced sound.
