I owned a mint in a wrapper dirty blonde LE thumb for about a year.
Then along came my first US Lakland.
The 44-07.
Then the US Scheff.
The thin fast neck profiles blew me away!
The basses nearly played themselves.
So I sold off the Warwick and also a dead mint one of a kind show bass by US Spector.
The chubby neck profiles just felt odd after playing the Lakland basses.
And it was always odd going back and forth to the really small body size of the thumb and spector too, compared to my other basses.
I'm sure of the number made, but there's one in the block party as well.
I believe they had problems with the chrome housings on the humbuckers which is why you don't see too many.
They make new ChiSonic Humbuckers so I'm sure 44-07's can be built now. I have them in my HB, and LOVE them!

Man, I love the look of the blocks and humbuckers with surrounds!
You just don't get along with white basses do you? I would love it, but I'd have to sell BOTH of my basses. Not to mention I'm gassing for a particular Warwick...
I used to not like white basses but Gary's Duck Dunn for some reason turned me around. Thus the Dude and my Dunn were more than welcome. I would like something in trans.white someday.
I had a Thumb briefly a long time ago. I liked it enough in the store that I bought it. I absolutely hated it on the gig both in tone and playability. So I returned it the next day. I think I have some idea of what you like in necks, and I'm not sure you'll get along with the Thumb. The dirty blonde certainly is gorgeous, though!

Oh man, a maple neck with black blocks and binding? That's my preferred maple neck right there!
I had a Warwick FNA as my second bass and I never should have sold it. I really liked the profile, nice and thin with a transition to a flat D-shape near the pocket. I also had a rockbass 5er that was like trying to play a baseball bat. I'm hoping the dirty blonde is closer to the FNA profile.
My buddy's Blonde LE has an awesome neck, and I'm PICKY!!! Laklands sleek 1.625s are my favorite and the standard I compare necks too. I always ask my friend, when I see him, if he's ready to sell it yet. He's not doing music anymore but still won't let it go.
It's maple and ash iirc and that's my favorite combo.

I used to be a Warwick endorser back when I was in the, er... Hardcore band. I mainly played the SSII 5 String, but I also had a Custom all-black thumb 5 that was the shizz. At the time they were literally the perfect basses for me. Good luck finding that one, I have seen a couple here and there.

Yup, that was it. When I talked to Carl about Chibuckers for the bass he's making me, he simply said
"Yeah, I can do that.....but can we put the buckers in MM casings? Those chrome casings are A PAIN IN THE ASS!" lol.
Sounds like they may be pretty well hated around the shop. Not sure exactly what it is about the casings that makes things so difficult though.
From what I recall, when they fill them with epoxy to seal the windings, they tended to leak and ruin the chrome finish. There could be other reasons as well. They do look cooler than the MM/soap bar type of cover, but understand if they were such a pain to get right.
Ok so we have 3... 44-07's accounted for...very curious how many more are out there?
Wish they would release the head count on how many where made.

Until recently, there was one 44-07 on the Sam Ash used site out of their Indianapolis store. Looks like someone got it!

I need some experienced Lakland users advice for a 44-64 . . .
Maybe the neo-punches are not my "thang" . . . I know Fralin pups are held in high regard (and were the standard pup in these models), but I've heard positive remarks on Lollar.
I guess I'm looking for a more vintage sound - any thoughts on the better option? I know it's very subjective, but curious for thoughts . . .
FYI, bass has LaBella flats - band plays mostly old school soul and some funk.
