I'm back! 55-01 MIK. Found this gem at a rare successful trip to GC. Got it for peanuts too! Installed a pickguard today.

Loved it so much I just placed an order for a brand new 55-02 Deluxe. Fresh from the factory. She is on route!

Everyone has commented that its a #1 serial...but what is the big deal? Would that really make it worth more? You dont think 2k plus for a lakland p bass is a little high?

If you don't like the bass or the price, don't buy it. It's that simple. The seller has the right to ask whatever price they want, it's a free market.

People have tried to help you privately and publicly here in the thread, if you don't want help, but simply want to complain and bash companies go elsewhere.

I normally wouldn't say this as we're generally a very welcoming bunch of lads and ladies, but you are making it difficult to continue to want to help you.

I'm not bashing..trust me...I love that bass...I just meant whats the big deal with #1 bass. Is there a real value to that? I honestly dont know...that's why I'm asking you guys...you guys have been a big help...shadow and markus both. ..thx. ..

SWEETWATER SUCKS! So they say they have the 44-14 and then call me saying maybe....then 6 hours later no contact....I call them...and they're not sure!...W T F , man...I try to buy a $2400 bass and they have no clue where it is....so I cancelled order..SO BACK TO SQUARE ONE.....UGH...NO WHAT! Iv'e been looking for 4-94's and they're hard to find....I can't wait any longer!

Honestly, when it comes to buying a Lakland from a shop, you can't do better than Bass Central. Remember, they're not great about updating the web site, so call or email them. And the price listed is not the final street price.

But like most of us Lakland USA owners, you may simply have to wait for what you REALLY want. Don't compromise. The wait is worth it.

I had a pretty bad taste left in my mouth from my Bass Central experience...I won't be doing business with them again.

I like going direct through Lakland ;)

And the 44-51...those basses are amazing. There's probably 20 USA models that have been built to date, so as Markus said, not many people know. I owned one and loved the heck out of it, but it's a slab body and was a little uncomfortable for my high strap height.

The whole #1 thing makes it just as cool as a bass owned by someone in a well known band. It doesn't REALLY make it worth more money, but it might help it sell faster. Because, let's face it, it's historical...being the first ever made. Shoot, if you could find the first ever Fender Jazz, imagine the price tag there today!

I think the price is fair for that bass. He would have an easier time selling it with a price drop from where it stands, but it's not unreasonable to ask that much for it.

Funny that Sweetwater just listed a new 44-14 on the bay. In fact, I think it is the exact version of what you wanted from them.
