And I ended my search by simply ordering another lakland...44-51...Brand new to my specs...now I just have to wait....but its worth it like many have stated before....

I'm missing something... Isn't a 44-51 the Vintage P style?

Oh, I missed that. Congrats! So, you went this route instead of the 44-14? Can I get your thoughts on your decision and why? I was on another thread with you discussing your 44-14 vs Fender CS Jazz. I'm looking at adding a Lakland to my gear and am trying to decide which would fit best.

Well I went back and forth for a little on whether or not to get P bass or order 4-94..I love the 51P and saw one for sale here....I almost pulled the trigger but then decided maybe I want active sound with Jazz bass.....Sweetwater had a 4-14 so I would of purchased it if not for their sloppy info....I'm real picky and I couldn't make up my mind on P or 4-94 style....So after lots of thought....decided to go with my original plan P bass.

The JO bass I've played many times but not the 51P...If it's like all Laklands, it's awesome for sure! We all know that single coil 51 sound!

I also was just wondering how CS fender was to Lakland J. I've never really played a CS. So I was wanting comparison info cause I almost went with one too! At one point I wanted 2 J basses but I changed mind quickly...Its a lot of money to spend on guitars. ..I like to ask a lotbof questions in this forum even if I annoy them....its worth it to do all research you can....These guys here understand

How would you guys compare a Fender CS 64 jazz NOS to the JO I ordered? Build quality and sound of course.....Because it essentially came down to those 2 for the j bass I wanted....They were pretty close in price

I have 2 CS Fenders and way more US Laklands... It's no question in my mind. Lakland is far better on many levels, but CS fender gives you a few things Lakland doesn't.

For instance, a finished neck. (But why?!) different neck shapes (but compared to Lakland...again, why) as well as many other nuances big and small. Just depends on what you're looking for! If you're looking for BEST, look no further.

Got it...I wasn't questioning your questioning (what?) or implying that it was annoying, as I ask a lot here. I just wanted to get your input on your Lakland decision. Funny that I may end up in the same place, with a J and a P instead of the 55-02 I was looking at. I've wanted to get another J since I sold my CS '64 Relic and am deciding between Sadowsky and Lakland on that, but I think a Lakland P is in order for me. Thanks for your input.

The the 51P is gorgeous...plain gorgeous!

A P and J is all you'll need......

I love old school colors and not the norm Blonde finish on a 51 style P.... so I ordered a sea foam / white pearloid 44-51....It's going to be beautiful

I was not expecting a bargain, and I stipulated that I wasn't picky about anything other than the body shape, neck profile (which HAD to be DJ5) , and a weight under 9 lbs . It was a flat, unqualified "no".

Hey guys! I got a new Lakie 55-01 about a month ago, and it's sweet (my first 5 ever)...however, when I switch to neck pickup, it has a very low input and is distorted. I thought it may be the battery so I put a new battery in it, and it's still doing it. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Yes that would get messy... I like Tru oil because it's something more natural feeling than the satin poly, and it was something that I was familiar with. It's easy to pick up a bottle at several stores near me as well... I've got a bass on it's way that I may do "THE" treatment on so I can A/B them...

maybe i'll even record some samples so we can try and guess which was the tru-oil and which was the howard's

Well, I still don't know what you mean by "standard pre" on the US JO. The standard is passive with concentric knobs.

To answer your question, my US JO is the best J bass of any brand, including Fender CS, I've ever played. The feel of the neck is to die for. If you went passive and want a little more active punch, do it with your amp or a simple boost pedal like the Markbass Miniboost.

FYI, since they wouldn't build a USA DJ5 I just got a new 5594 from Bass Sanctuary and whoever is now building these puppies hit this one out of the park. Not only does it sound great and have uber top shelf fit and finish....but they finally get that light is right. 8.2 lbs with flawless balance and amazing feel. The resonance of the body keeps me grinning as much as the tone. Amazing.
