BassCentral had my Deluxe Buckeye Burl 44-94 listed for this much $$$:

Retail: $5,400.00
Actual Sell price: $4,320.00
What I ended up paying? Not sayin :) hahaha!!

But here is the link, they of course still have the bass up almost a year later. :eyebrow:

The prices I quoted above are MAP, which is what Lakland lists on its site.

The prices for the 44-AJ and the 55-AJ exactly match the prices of a 4-94 and 55-94 with Deluxe tops. Both the -94 and AJ series have the LH-3, two pickups and a quilted top, so I'd say the AJs are priced right where they should be. And Lakland sells plenty of the 94s.

I think the issue is that Lakland isn't known for active Js and is thus having a tough time breaking into that market.

You know the noise you get when the battery runs low? Well, I got that noise and put a brand new Duracell in. When I fired up the bass I still got the low battery noise, so I checked the battery in my tuner and it was ok. I put another new Duracell in the bass and now I have no sound at all!

Has anyone experienced this before?

All the wiring and connections look good (no loose ends) so I'm hoping this isn't a problem in the preamp, the original 1997 Bartolini NTMB-L, which I guess isn’t available anymore.

We have some good guitar techs around here, but I thought I’d run it past you guys first.

Have you checked the connection at the battery box? Get some contact cleaner and spray the pots and turn a few times to see if that helps. Also, have you tried to isolate the sound to a particular pot, i.e. turn all of the eq pots down, play and then raise one at a time, do the same with the blend and the switch. Lastly the same with the volume. If you do find a suspect pot, reflow the solder connections and try again. If the reflow does not help, buy a new pot.

Good bit of advice right there. ;)

Also just because a battery 'works' in your tuner doesn't mean it still has enough juice to work properly in your bass. I would test with a battery meter to make sure your 'fresh' batteries are indeed holding a full charge as well.

Fancy wood tops are definitely something that has to be a preference of the owner and building basses stock with flame or quilt tops really has not been that popular for anyone, at least in the US market. Remember the Fender QMT and FMT series? They didn't sell very many of those either...

I tend to agree. I'm a big fan of trans finishes and wood grain, but certain basses just seem to need their "accessories". P, J, Stingray etc. they just don't look right without the pick guard or control plates.

I would have to think so, but I haven't owned both at the same time, and I don't have calipers. So its more of a "gut feel". Others may be able to answer definitively.

Mine are almost identical with slight differences in the thickness and neck profile...but they were made 10 years apart. 2003 55-02 and 2013 55-01. The critical dims on mine are almost the same width and thickness at the neck bottom/pocket.

Happy Valentines Day, Lakland lovers! Be sure to give your Lakland a fresh set of strings and a nice tune up :) get rid of those finger smudges on her body and do the Pedigo treatment on her neck and fretboard!

Don't forget to tell her how you couldn't live without her ;)

Last night I jammed with a new band and am leaving my previous one after tonight's gig
(no biggie, story not worth telling). Anyway, took the new 5594, which had given me some pause due to switching between 34 and 35" scales.......it sounded superb and played like a dream. This 5 piece has a much more sane volume (last band was NOT sane in terms of volume......at all IMHO) and with the bass set flat, passive it thumped clearly and gloriously-this is my first time in a live mix with a 5594 and the latest pickups. Wow!
I used a GB Shuttle 6.2-210 combo. Do most of you with Lakland 5s play only the 35" scale or do you flip-flop back and 4th to 34" 4 bangers or 5ers????

34 to 35 has never been the problem, I have a harder time adapting to the thicker neck on a 5. Riffs that are no problem for me on a 4 string are inconcievably harder on a 5. inconceivably.
