What red is that? I know it's over a finished top, but is it apple red or burgundy? Regardless, it's absolutely beautiful.

The actual color is called Jazzberry a purple/redish color.
Looks good under lights
On my 55-01 I run Slinky's. I had to too load them because I didn't get the longer scale version of the strings. So depending on the scale length of string you get you have both options.
Question for multiple axe-owning Laklanders:
Do your necks have different carves or profiles? I have three now at home, all 4-strings with 1.5" nut widths.
An Indonesian Skyline 44-60: this neck is a toothpick. Flat and narrow. I like it fine, but it's a little insubstantial in the hand.
A USA Series 44-64, custom order but I didn't ask for any particular specs on the neck: It's just a little too chunky, round and deep. But I love everything else about this bass -- it's unique to me and I will never part with it.
And a USA Hollowbody, one of the last ever made: This neck is Goldilocks. Perfect. A little more meat and depth than the Skyline, but a bit of a flattened D shape to the carve. It's so right in my hands. Just makes me say, "ahhhhh."
I like the Hobo neck so much that I'm thinking about hiring an ace luthier to file down my 44-64 neck to match the Hollowbody. Any thoughts on that? Is it a terrible idea?

I've had similar experience with my Laklands. I love the neck on my DJ-4 and 44-02. They are more on the chunky side with a narrow nut. My 44-64 fretless had a 1.5 nut and was too thin for my liking. Same for the 44-94 USA I had owned, which was a gorgeous instrument but I found the next too thin.
The current 44-64 necks are not the same as the original ones. When they brought all of the CNC production in house the profile info on that neck did not come too and it changed. The old ones are wide/thin like a Fullerton era Fender 62 reissue. I love it a lot. That is all the info I have 
I've got Super Slinkies on my 55-94 now. Top loaded and they fit, but it's pretty close as I recall. Through the body would not work. They sound great BTW.
Decided to go with chrome clover tuners to keep Lakland style tuners on their bass necks. Ordered the 1/2" ones but would have had to do some sanding for them to fit,so I had to reoder the 3/8" ones so wouldn't have to widen the peg holes.

I got the tuners off one of Ebay sellers. I imagine you would have to order them directly from Hipshot to get the sleeves. Thanks!
Lakland 55-60 vs DJ5
Other than the obvious body differences, anything else stand out? Both are passive and I think have the same pickups. What am I missing?

The neck radius is different and the neck profile is different.
Man, I am jonesing hard for a US Lakland AJ. I saw one for sale just like that but 4 string with blocked neck and I can't stop thinking about it. It is #1 gas with a bullet. Seeing a touring pro rocking one makes the GAS even more intense.

They don't care how you got their products, they want you to keep using them and be an advocate. This translates in future revenue.
Recently I bought a used set of Hipshot LIC tuners here at TB and two of the sleeves/nuts wouldn't catch on the tuner threads. They sent me replacements, no questions asked.
Exactly, as it was posted earlier this year:
The Skyline DJ5 is the only Lakland 5-string bass that has a 12" radius across the fretboard.
I actually talked with one of their customer service techs today. Real friendly and knowledgeable.
