Instrument Gig Bags | Henry Heller Music There is a bit of a mark up on the Lakland end, but you do get a beautifully done Lakland embroided logo. As for the bag itself, it's sturdy and protective for a gig bag. Definitely much more protective than the other Lakland gig bag that was sold. The handles are leather or pleather, I am not quite sure. There are 3 nice size pockets, certainly big enough to hold some cables, a tuner, sheet music and my Tech 21 Bass Fly Rig. There is a sturdy insert around the perimeter that provides nice protection. On the inside, there is an extra piece of cushion but it it not velcroed in, it just floats freely. The neck support is ok. That has velcro to secure it in place but the velcro is vertical. It would be more stable if horizontal. My 44-02 fits nicely in there and it provides good protection. And it's light.

My other gig bag is a Gator Transit bag. I would say they are similar in protection (though the Gator does not have an insert that surrounds the bag for stiffness). A plus for the Gator is that the shoulder straps can be zipped away. On the Lakland bag, they cannot. Other than that, they are pretty comparable.

I ordered this through Reverb and Bass Central. It was shipped directly from Lakland.

I just noticed it's Made In India... don't know if that's good or bad, but certainly different than Made In China

My first Lakland on its way! It’s a red 5594 with a Sims pickups mod and Nordy pre. Seems it was bought new in 2018 by the bassist for Blues Traveller, suffered a headstock-refin-gone-awry, was sold soon thereafter and modded into a passive PJ, then was traded on Talkbass, modded back into an active with Sims pickups, refinished, and eventually sold to a music store in Missouri. When the price dropped on Reverb, I pounced even though I’m into smaller basses. I wanted a 5 and to try the Sims anyway, plus I just love the positioning of the pickups so close to the bridge. My previous 35” experience includes a Modulus and a Peavey G Bass, but I’ve been playing short scale for a long time. Hope it’s not too jarring a change!

Based on your description, I'm pretty sure I've looked at that bass before on Reverb...very interested to hear your impressions of it!

Been learning some new-to-me cover tunes with my band lately, and once again I’ve noticed how much I’m drawn to songs with basslines that don’t even need the E string, much less a B. Hey Jealousy for instance… lowest note is the open A string during the chorus. Lowest note during the verse is the D (5th fret of the A). Just an observation… don’t anybody get offended or anything.

Well, so far this bass has not been a keeper for at least four buyers, including two modders. I like them odds! It has been listed from $1500 to $6000!

Wondering how it got from Cali to Missouri last year.

Ernie Williamson copied and pasted the last seller’s Reverb ad instead of writing their own, which always annoys me just a little. Not as a bassist, mind you — as a writer!

My B/L loves low notes. He writes songs specifically to have that B string locked and loaded. The lower the better yet I’m trying to help him understand that lows have more impact when there are also highs to counter them. It’s a tough sell but I am working them in!

I agree totally with what you said about impact. The B has none without the contrasting high parts.

Looking for a pickguard for a Glaub 44-64 if anyone is willing to sell, or recommendations on a supplier. 2018-ish build, no preference in color, but no pearls or single-ply.

Lots of changes in replacement pickguard manufacturers since covid and a search didn’t bear much fruit.

Try Lakland directly. They made one for my 44-02.

Wow, this thing is reaching legendary status for how determined previous owners were attempting to make this work. Interesting modifications though. It would have been cool to have demos for each pickup configuration to hear the differences.
