Looks very much like my Pro-Tec Contigo Bass, different zip-pouch arrangement, and the cross wise handle is different too.

Very protective, was reasonably priced when I got mine, long ago. Looks like around $140 currently.

You might find a deal on a Lakland bag if you rummage around, talk to some dealers.

Not checking in a ton on the forum the last few months, but the '04 MiK Skyline Deluxe in "not your grandmother's" quilted maple burst I acquired a couple years ago? Still the absolute knees of the bees. I've been too busy to even think about the tuners, which on this bass are Hipshot licensed lil guys, one of which is bent as it was when I plucked it from Music Go Round.

Having the idea of maybe switching to full-on USA-made Hipshot tuners, I've read that a designed shim from Hipshot makes that possible... as in the tuners' holes are too narrow for the USA Hipshot tuners by a small margin, but can be made to fit via said shim. Is it a very successful mod? Does it do anything weird to how tuning is handled?

Yes, send an email to Hipshot. I'll send you the contact info in private.

It's not a "shim". It's a nut/bushing/sleeve that replaces the stock one, and has the same external size as the LIC. Did it many times. Nothing weird about it.

Used the 54-14 for some new songs this weekend. Sent the track to our engineer and he just said, “So nice and thick!”

Job. Done.

Not knowing the full application being discussed here… I can confirm it is possible to install USA HipShot Tuners on a Skyline… This worthwhile mod is not for everyone and may be more involved on a 4 string as shown here. I say this because for at least the Korean necks, the 4 tuning peg holes are closer together which requires some thought to overcome.

If you are bound and determined to do it like I was, I say go for it. The diameter of the through hole require slight enlarging and the USA HipShot tuner flanges need some minor trimming - all of which is possible - even if the told it can’t be done. I included a shot from my US model for a side-by-side comparison. This rare Ebony-limed Maple fretless neck never had tuners of any type installed except for the US models I installed - so no extra screw holes in my case. However, the larger flanges of the US style tuners would hide that from view for those who are modifying an existing factory built Lākland bass with lic. style tuners already installed.

Oh, good point Gordon, I just assumed @Real Soon was asking about replacing Ultralite LICs by Ultralite USAs. Didn't even consider HB1s. I guess it is because I don't own any 4-string Laklands.

Really digging EB Super Slinkies on my Bart equipped 55-94. These strings seem to have a slight lower mid scoop and a little emphasis/grit in the upper mids. I find other strings with smooth upper mids can sound a bit too polite on the 55-94...the Super slinkies give it some character.

Top load only though...the winding only goes about 1/2" past the nut!

Thanks y'all! Some good info and also food for thought for when I take action on this.

I do have in a drawer a set of Fender stock tuners that came on my Mustang PJ a while back. Maybe on a quiet weekend I could see what the fit of those looks like for possible grinding/sanding the furthest edges of a set of Hipshot HB1s, which is enticing as I play in a group that uses Drop D (which I have to do while also selecting patches on a keyboard synthesizer). & having sanded down the corner of a Hipshot bridge saddle on my Kiesel 6-string fretless (I have no business owning it!!) to get the B string to intonate, I'll say I'm willing to do the work. & the bass is certainly worth the effort.
