It really is. Photographs flat but it is really rich and changes from a stark to a bit of a yellowed Olympic white depending on the angle.
And I love the matching headstock.
Beautiful! Really love the DJ models. If this has the Aero pickups, you're in for a treat. My old DJ5 has Aeros and they just punched and hit like no other jazz pickup. And if it doesn't have them......you're still in for a treat. Just a great bass. Sometimes I regret moving mine along but it was HEAVY. Longer gigs took their toll.
That has been the objection to Skyline instruments, weight! The main reason many have gotten rid of them. Both of my Skylines are sub 9lbs. I'm fortunate.
Don't know if I have the Aeros but I can say this bass with the J-retro sounds way better than the 2013 55-60 I had just put a J-Retro in a month or so ago. Sounds very different and significantly hotter. Even after adjusting the gain on each pickup. Need to figure that out.
Haven't weighed this one yet but it is less than my 13+ lbs main gigging bass.
Did a cleaning, oiling, and re-string and I'm thinking of giving her a whirl this weekend for a show we're playing.
13+ lbs for main bass! Would not be able to stand that much weight now for very long standing.
Tale of two J-Retros would bother me until I got to bottom of why the results were so different.
I have a UniPre 5 knob and it is so tweekable which accounts for it's versatility.

Sounds almost like my early 80s Peavey T-40...that bass was like hanging a cement block around your neck.
I called mine " the tank"....
Just picked this up here on TB on a little bit of a whim. Absolutely loving it, really blew me away with the playability. I wasn't quite getting the sound I wanted (was a little tame for me), but with stainless strings and using the treble on my amp I got it where I want it now. I am used to a Stingray 5 as my main bass last few years, so think I am just used to a more bright aggressive sound. But was able to get the 44-02 there with the right EQ and strings.

Ugh, I find myself, while waiting for my US Dual J build, Googling 55-64's….so unlikely to find one, especially being in the UK haha.
Is it even worth asking if anyone has any leads

I replaced the battery and judging by the green and red wires, they appear to be Lakland pickups. I assumed it would as it was a 2008 and they transitioned away from the Aeros by then.
Played the DJ5 this weekend.
And it appeared to work!

I've got the below Syline Decade on its way to me to pair w/ my DJ & DD. It also matches the finish on my 60's Gibson SG.
