I went down this route too and from what I read anecdotally, some have chosen to upgrade the preamp as a first step - I reached out to Bartolini to see what they had to offer and they have really great customer service, they offered to significantly discount me on a preamp and/or pick up upgrades - I ended up trading up the bass for a 44-94, but was considering it - although, to Canada the final cost even after discount was still quite expensive.

My low grade bass related ocd compels me to change my strings every couple of gigs. Well that and I love the sound of new EB slinkies but they tend to loose that high end zing fairly quickly. Today during a string change on my new to me 55-94 I took the opportunity to do the orange oil followed up by the feed and was treatment on the neck. That and it gave me the chance to give the fretboard a good cleaning to remove some finger gunk from a previous owner that was sort of creeping me out. Dang this thing sounds good with a fresh set of strings. Fingers style, pick or with my limited slap skills. And the neck feels fantastic! A/B'ing the Lakland against my Sadowsky I feel there's practically no comparison. I'm only going to keep one and I think the Lakland is slowly pushing the Sadowsky out of the door.

Hey everyone

I own a Lakland Joe Osborn and I'm thinking about buying a P-Bass as well. I have two question: Do you know if the bodies of the 44-64 and the 44-51 are the same size, aside from the pickguard, or is there a difference where one is bigger or smaller?

Also, with an alder body, how would you describe the difference between a maple and a rosewood fretboard?
