Nice shot! lovely quilt pattern in conjunction with the roasted maple neck! I had a 4402 deluxe like that, it had amazing resonance and sustain.

I just made a deal for my friend, who's not into online buying. I bought a 2002 JO Skln for him and have to say, I would always adore old Korean skylines, any time. It's a heavy beast, but man - feeling of the neck is nearly the same as my US, fralins sing in every position and it's built somehow like a tank, all is solid and nice. True working horse, but without any compromise. Pic with my 2008 US.

Lovely basses, thanks for the picture and comparaison - I've had new and old but never an older Korean model - my 2008 JO 44-60 is fairly heavy at 9.8 lbs but the neck and resonance are both outstanding. I've had older USA, wonder how they compare to today's new Lakland USAs, has anyone had both? I guess I will find out soon enough - from pictures, the neck woods seem less figured/flamed as the older builds, but again that's my limited observations, you can't hands on around these parts - if the website info is up to date, seems like they have not changed the neck build process, and still orange oil/hand rub the necks etc.
I busted out the 55-02 and started fooling with the mid switches. I think I’m actually going to give 900hz a shot for a little bit. When cutting it seemed to allow for a good slap tone and when boosted adds a little bite to the upper mids for cutting through a little more. This was used in conjunction with adjustments to the bass/treble knobs and bridge p/u switching. Who knows though….I may hate it on the gig but we’ll see….
No, but I have a custom 54-pp, which is a 55-94 body, full passive, 34" scale with double P.
Sounds great on the neck PU, but I don't live the bridge.
I have a USA 55-94 deluxe from the early 2000s, and a newer 55-aj, and a 54-dual p.
I think the newer US models are just as good as the older one.
La Lākland has just been restrung. The D'Addarios that come standard with it aren't bad, but they're a bit rough for my delicate fingertips. Plus, I wanted to experience how flats sound on a Jazz Bass. So I put on a relatively “economical” set of Fender flatwounds (50-100). (Before that, I pampered the fretboard with a little oil.)
Okay: These strings work without too much fuss; they feel nice, and, bonus, the blue silk is quite… um… Skyline Lake Placid Blue compatible.
Not quite there yet: These Fenders, straight out of the package, are a lot more “zingy” than, say, GHS Precision Flats. But I’ve been told by the interwebz that I just need to break them in properly.
Ended up trading for a 2002 Jeff Scheff. Which I am very happy with!Just a FYI, I have this up for sale. And I may be putting up my 2006 DudePit.

Curious how you guys with the J/MM pickup combo like to keep your coil tap switch?
Mostly, I set the coil tap switch to the front of the MM pickup.
I use the neck pickup a lot with just a little bridge mixed in a lot of the time.

I thought you were talking about the settings on the preamp.
I do adjust the coil tap at times depending on the song.
But mostly I just keep it in the middle. So my answer still pretty much is the same.
Depends on what I'm doing. I rarely switch it to only the back coil. "Standard" is everything centered with a moderate treble boost for a nice general purpose sound. I'll switch to the front coil and blend slightly towards the bridge for a little more edge.
I also like soloing the front coil of the MM pickup with a small treble cut and a small lower mid boost. On my 55-94 it gets an interesting "sorta P bass but a little more clarity and definition" kind of vibe.

I am not a Lakland owner, but few days ago I had a chance to record one, so I did. I compared it in the same mix with 3 other 5-string basses that I had available at that moment. My impressions of Lakland are excellent, even though this particular piece is very heavy.
