Lakland Owners Group #69

Not sure if there are any Country music fans in the LOG house here, but I've been digging on Carrie Underwood's stuff for a while (and her bassist, Jimmie Lee Sloas in particular), and dug into one of her new tunes in the home studio this afternoon. His lines are pretty fantastic and very dynamic in what can be a pretty 'meat n' potatoes' genre in some cases. The 55-01 sounded really good straight in with just a little tube compression.

Tecamp puma 900 for me. Light, warm, and articulate. Did I mention 900 watts in a 3lb package. What an awesome time to be a bass player. Also spent a significant time on "the other side" with a very rare Baer Valkyrie tube head. This is my preference when my back is feeling strong. What an amazing 3 - dimensional sound! A heavier 26lbs currently being run with one baer ml112 @350w@8ohms. 350 doesn't sound like much and I don't know what Roger puts in these things (I suspect tiny unicorns or something) but I've never drowned a band out while being on 2 with an amp....well, until now!

Nice track. If you'd asked me the genre of that track, 'country' would not have crossed my mind.

Indeed. What's considered 'Country Music' is an annoyingly large envelope these days. The majority of what passes for it annoys the crap out of me, but there are some artists whose approach and overall body of work is much more traditional, while still occasionally going for more of the 'crossover' approach. I feel Carrie's body of work more resembles the style/approach of what folks were doing in the mid-90's, when Country still had a lot of more rock/pop crossover appeal, but didn't go so far into other genres so as to appear 'unfocused'. I admit I'm not a fan of all of the country/rock/rap hybrid stuff I'm hearing these days.

Definitely seems like some common solutions here! That Streamliner looks pretty appealing, and TecAmp Puma always appealed to me. But... I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Fender Rumble V3 500. My brother-in-law pointed out that the price I was offered was just too good to pass up.

Today's "Country" is shirley popular, that's why I've been trying hard to get into a solid Country band for more than a year now.
Hasn't quite happened yet, but still hopeful. Those spots don't come up much, because they get gigs and get paid.
You have to pick thru the schlock to find artists that are 1) quality (I put Carrie, Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw in this category), and 2) those still pushing the envelope, so I like to listen to them (Jason Aldean, Zac Brown Band, Eli Young Band) but yeah, there is a lot of schlock (Blake & Miranda, Florida Georgia Line, Dierks Bentley lately, I don't know what he's thinking lately, and don't get me started on the rap s**t).


On the subject of heads.

I'm very happy with my 2

TH500 for smaller gigs

GK MBFusion800 for big gigs

Haven't had amp gas in a few months.

Hey Gents,
I'm having my first experience with the LH-3 preamp in the 44-60 body. Does the passive control on the LH-3 bypass all of the preamp circuitry, or is the preamp still coloring the sound when in passive mode? The LH-3 seems a little darker with more bass emphasis than I'm accustomed to with the passive setup or an Audere 2B preamp. Trying to figure out if its the bass or the preamp.

From my understanding, it should be fully bypassed.

By the way, you need to post a pic of that new Lakland! We see from your for sale post that it exists in theory, but it's not real until you post a photo!!!

Was never really a fan of the 44-AJ series, but this one had the 'burst' effect on the body paint which made a big difference IMO. The color also seems darker than the other AJ's I've seen, which are more toward red. US made, with single coil pickups and short stem standard wind tuning machines, drop-D tuner, and... 7lbs 14oz. Best Lakland neck I've had yet.
