Speaking of bourbon-related experiences......today I tasted Pappie Van Winkle 20 year family reserve for the 1st time. I had been skeptical and honestly did not expect it to taste any better than any other good bourbon, figuring the price and marketing were all unwarranted. I blind tested it against 4 Roses single barrel and Basil Hayden, both of which I love (along with Maker's, Wild Turkey single barrel and Hirsch). I was totally blown away. The Pappie instantly and obviously smells more intense and fragrant in the glass (caramel in spades!) and although it bites like bourbon should , is smooth and silky, almost like a good cognac. Amazing! Now I am screwed 'cause I may not be able to score another bottle for a long time 
Bourbon is good, but after this Christmas, my house is going to be the premier local for scotch in America. I guess when you order a couple of expensive glasses of scotch in front of your family they assume you are a full blown alcoholic.... Jeez.

Yeah, Pappy is the business. The first time I had it was at a Pappy Dinner where they served the 10, 12, 15, 20 and 23. It was awesome to try them all and compare. I personally liked the 20 over the 23 but you wouldn't go wrong with either. I've had the 20 twice more since then and it is still awesome.
But like you said, getting a bottle to call your own... that's another adventure.

Yeah-I have to be Zen about it and just enjoy, avoiding the human tendency to worry about a good time ending or a bad time never ending. They all end eventually

Vodka/Gin man here. Local distillery in Columbus called Watershed makes righteous vodka and gin.
I tend to be seasonal. In the winter, before dinner, brown is the rule. When it's hot, martinis rule. When the food hits the table, it's all about grape juice
On another note, I will be doing another Lakie experiment and having a 34" neck made for one of my modded 5501s. Assuming I like the result, I will eventually have 2 maple/rw 5501 and 1 5594 maple/maple necks FS if anyone is interested.
