Was never really a fan of the 44-AJ series, but this one had the 'burst' effect on the body paint which made a big difference IMO. The color also seems darker than the other AJ's I've seen, which are more toward red.

I agree on both (or all 3?) counts. You found a winner!

Did Lakland once have the battery compartment on the side of the bass "above" the control cavity?
I saw a used Lakland with the battery there instead of the current position at the "bottom" above the string thru body holes.

The bypass is 100%....funny tgatbyou call the LH3 "DARK"....I find it the exact opposite...I find the bart pre dark and the LH3 much more bright and "brilliant"

Yes...on some models...also on some "retrofits".....the really early basses had the battery in the control cavity....when they added the box it was added where you see it..

Played a company Christmas party today...a mix of Christmas music 70s type rock and a few country cross overs.....

Took white lightning and blue velvet ( 5507),...

Played in a factory....sound was surprisingly good and both basses sounded great!!!!!

Love playing my Lakies!

Interesting. In this bass it is noticeably less brilliant or pronounced in the treble and presence than any of my other basses, which include a passive US JO, a US JO with an Audere two band, and Sadowsky basses.

Strings are Sadowsky blue label steels on all the basses. Strings on the LH-3 are brand new.

New steels should be ulta-zingy (yes Doude you can use that) and bright even in passive mode. With the LH3 engaged I would think the zing would be almost unbearable. Not sure where the darkness is coming from.
