If I was to start down that path with putting a matte black control plate or extended pickguard on there, then I would want to visually follow through with blacking out the rest of the hardware. The larger black element on a lighter body would create a more robust visual impact with the added contrast and the now lone chrome element on the body (the bridge) would feel lost or almost invisible and would not have sufficient visual weight to balance the composition. Just my 2¢

I made these for Gecko5 (John) for his new acquisition, the soon to be Tangerine 44-64. The grain in the Padauk is really nice and has lots of movement.

In the past few months, as most of you know I've been making knobs to make my instruments more aesthetically pleasing. One thing that I made, simply out curiosity and some extra Rosewood, was a finger bridge or thumb bridge or whatever they are called. I first put one on my 55-01 to see how the feel was and it was very comfortable. The difference in the sound and tones that you get are also pretty impressive. These little beauties give you more options in the tone of your attack, you can pick any spot between the pups to play and the tonal difference was really noticeable. I removed the thumb bridge that was on my 55-01 earlier today to see if it really made a difference and I was very surprised at how much of a difference that it did make. Not only in the sound as I have already said, but it allows my arm and wrist to sit more naturally or ergonomically if you will and is just damn comfortable. If you have never tried one, I'd encourage you to try one. So because I was already making the thumb rest for Gecko5, I went ahead and made one out of same Padauk for my 55-02 and I'm happy! It's very comfortable.

I would like them BOTH to be the darker wood....guess I would have to get you measurements between the pickups...especially since one is a dual humbucker....

That's exactly the point, to facilitate easier playing at various intervals between the pups.
On the tug bar topic... The only think I don't like about my dark star pickup is that it seems to often make my right hand cramp up (the "meat" below the thumb joint) when playing steady notes. Jeannie's apparently used to have a thumb rest/tug bar for the DS but, well, it was Jeannie's (may he rest in peace). Anyone figured out something clever for this purpose that doesn't require drilling holes?
