Don't they just do a swap, your chrome pieces for their black coated pieces?
That was my understanding. That way there's no chrome Lakland logo'd bridges floating around for people to put on non-Lakie basses.

They coat the parts is my understanding. They leave the bottom uncoated so you keep good contact with the ground wire.
This is correct and if you do two bridges or more at once, there's a discount for the second bridge as they're already doing the set up for the first one.
Hipshot can't sell you a Lakland bridge. You have to contact Lakland. Hipshot will coat it for you. You have to send yours in and it takes about a week. There still wouldn't be any Lakland bridges floating around. Unless you are like me. I only have one bass and I needed it so I bought a spare bridge while mines was getting coated.
Lakland won't sell you a bridge unless you send yours in (say, for example, yours is damaged or similar). I tried getting one from them last year and the answer was no.

I got lucky because they sold me one. I had to send my serial number to prove I had a Lakland. They knew why I needed one and all. It was rather easy. He was very nice.

I figured someone hacked his account or something, but your explanation is more feasible.
I think I actually agree with The Dark One on this, that natural DJ looks good with Chrome. I seem to remember a similar looking natural Lakland (5501 maybe?) with black hardware and a similar neck. It looked a little off to me.
Nobody's claimed dibs yet, but to be fair all anyone (including myself) has seen is the hardware. Pat still has the body. I expect mid- February.
And his "extra" will help me get a rare Lakland back on the streets...
Those of you who peruse the classifieds will remember that I had a Solid Rosewood Lakland "kit" for sale a while back. (by kit I mean that everything was Lakland, but it didn't come from the factory on the same instrument. I had to steal the neck from a US model, and the bridge off a different US model, and so forth.)
So I ended up with some incomplete Lakland instruments in my closet.
The fellow I sold it all to put it all together with some high end parts (Pope preamp and Ultra Jazz PUs), but then decided he needed to sell it, so he gave me first crack at it.
I bought it back and so I am in the process of sort it all out so that all my Laklands are "as they should be"
