I'm back in "The Family". This was listed on Ebay, and ended with no bids.
I contacted the seller and got a sweet deal.
Its quite scratched up. However, hope to be sending it off to Pat Wilkins for a fresh coat of paint.
I want to replace the tuning gears with the long stem tuners they use on US Glaubs.
Are those direct replacements?

I called Hipshot today.
Super cool people!!
Turns out you can order just the tuning gear stem.
I don't have to change the entire tuning gear.
Super excited!!!![]()
On the tug bar topic... The only think I don't like about my dark star pickup is that it seems to often make my right hand cramp up (the "meat" below the thumb joint) when playing steady notes. Jeannie's apparently used to have a thumb rest/tug bar for the DS but, well, it was Jeannie's (may he rest in peace). Anyone figured out something clever for this purpose that doesn't require drilling holes?

Yeah, that's the one! It seemed to get mixed reviews regarding fit and finish, and raises the pickup height from my understanding. But seems to be on the right track! This was the Jeannie's product -

Yeah, Hipshot is excellent to work with. I've sent stuff to them for modification and repairs and they were great about it.The snap-ring that holds the stem into place is a real mother to take off. I mean a real PITA. I struggled for quite a few minutes to get one off and couldn't. Not to mention I stabbed myself in the hand a couple times with a screwdriver and/or awl. Just a thought.....send your gears to Hipshot and have them swap out your stems. Its worth it.
Thanks, I'd forgetten about those! I like the concept of the Zero Mod.
Over the summer I had inquired with the Zero Mod guys - their reply:
"Will certainly consider it - Have a P Bass model coming out soon. it may or may not fit Lakland.... To tell the truth the Lakland /high end Jazz edition (this one) has been a bust! Basically ignored by the Lakland users."Which I guess somehow made me want to forget/ignore them.

First time I have played or heard one in person and I am real glad I pulled the trigger. Looks and sounds oh so good and its pretty light at 8.5lbs.Of course! I sent you an email.
I'm a big fan of hipshot products for the sole reason that their customer service is excellent!
