Did Lakland change from 3/8" Hipshot Ultralites to 1/2" Ultralites on their 5 strings?
My 5 string USA Lakland from 2011 appears to have 3/8" but I see recent Lakland 5's with 1/2".

"No changes have been made to the USA Series.
However, the new "Classic Series" basses (4s and 5s) all use the same Ultralight Machines with a slightly larger diameter post."

Thanks for checking! I guess just the Classic series + Skylines use the larger 1/2" posts then

Now the big question, do you feel a difference when you play ergonomically and do you hear a tonal difference because you have extra positions that you didn't before?

as for feel... YUP...major difference...Sound? do not know yet...have not had a chance to plug them in.

I can tell you that (especially with the dual coil tap switches) I can get about any sound I want.
Maybe I will use it this week at church and see if I can get a decent recording...

Hey guys, I just got my first Lakland (Skyline 
) in the mail about 10 minutes ago. I got a bit of a surprise though! I was expecting an Indonesian-built 44-02 with Lakland USA pickups and pre. What I got was a 2005 (yet brand new) Korean-built with Bartolini USA pickups and pre.

Ordering "new" instruments are always somewhat of a crapshoot, but as long as it works like it's supposed to, and you like the Barts, sounds like a winner! and like Texan said, you can always trade the Bart stuff for Lakland/Hanson stuff if you want (I would imagine even in OZ).

Honestly it's not that big of a surprise. I bought a 55-02 BRAND NEW. Not a fingerprint or a mark on it. Strings were factory fresh, and it had all the tags and everything. That was in 2012. But the bass was made in 2007. I contacted Lakland, purely out of curiosity, and they said its not unusual for the basses to sometimes get lost in the shuffle. They aren't re stocks, they aren't new old stock. They just kind of disappear, then pop up brand new in a store. I laughed because the bass was perfect. Like it just came off the work bench. Plus, the neck and everything else was mint so I couldn't even complain. If I couldn't tell it wasn't brand new made that year, then it didn't bother me. And I couldn't tell! Now when I look online at stores like Bass Central, and I see really nice Laklands from 2009, 2010, and so on, I wouldn't hesitate to buy. Because I now know these basses can truly withstand the test of time. You may have the same type of situation as I did. I say, don't sweat it. It's gonna rock like it was brand new.
