I just put Daddario XL170's on my 55-01, but I didn't got through the body this time...I think the length would be okay to go string thru.

No problem here using bog standard length strings going thru body on my DJ4. Recently strung it with DR Fat Beams, great sounding combination!
I just put a set of Chromes 45-100 on my DJ4 and could not be happier.
DR's are the perfect length for 35" strung through body. I ALWAYS do... Still have room to cut and have 3 1/2" (eyeballed) for post windings and the outer wrap always rests 1/4" or so past the nut.

They used to come with Lakland strings but now they appear to be D'Addario strings.
You definitely need extra long strings because you need a mininum of 37" length of string to clear the nut on a 35" scale bass going through body.
I have a set of DR longs on the way.. It looks like all my fretted 5 basses have DR strings on them now.. Now I have to decide whether I want to return the brand new set of Elixers I have or try to unload them here on TB..
+1 for DRs.
I personally think they make the best feeling/sounding strings around. But taking the objectivity out of it, I have never had problems with any DR 5 string sets stringing through the body on a 55 series bass.

Well I did (because laklands are soYou sold that bass!? Really? I thought that bass was THE ONE!
Consistent, I could pick up another later and be just as happy) to shore up the funds for a ring for THE ONE!
Haven't played this guy in a while... Threw on a fresh set of strings curteousy of the LOG (thanks, Doude and co!) and took it to church this morning. It's feeling great.
It's a skyline, factory dark stars. Originally inca silver, I had Marty Bell paint it olympic white. Sent it to Carl Pedigo to rewire it and to replace the nut which was cut HORRIBLY from the factory. It's now bone, and perfect, of course. He also installed a maple neck shim that was originally some janky piece of metal, assumedly also from the factory.
The neck feels better in terms of playability than the U.S. HB I owned. I'm probably going to remove the satin finish on it and replace the tuners to give it that true U.S. feel.

I have 55-02 which I love because it's so good. I have a chance to snag a used 55-94, but to do that I must sell my 55-02 and a Stingray (who cares for Stingray if Lakland is around anyway). Is a 55-94 worth the price of my other 2 basses ?
Never played any MIA Lakland before but the MII I have is miles ahead of any MIA Fender and Musicman I've came across. So "real" Lakland should be better.
Being an Indonesian, I'm very proud of my 55-02. Not an easy decision to part with that bass.
